Preparing your home for your dog

In comparison to cats, dogs are a little high maintenance. However, with dogs, you have a wide variety of breeds you can choose from. It is important you pick a type of dog whose personality will suit yours. When choosing a breed thoroughly research the breed your interested in, for example a large breed of dog such as a rottweiler can grow very big and powerful, so will need extra training and exercise. On the other hand a small Yorkshire terrier will be happy with short walks little and often we have a breed information on the site that will give you a picture and a short description of the breed to help guide you.

When looking for a puppy the certain features needs to be kept in mind

Do not adopt a puppy unless it is six to eight weeks old. The puppy should look alert, curious and active instead of shy or nervous. The puppy should have clear eyes, clean ears, and white teeth with pink gums but no running nose or skin irritation problems. When buying a pure breed puppy do check out at least one of the parents. Do get your puppy vaccinated since small dogs are very susceptible to diseases. Ask as many questions as you can think of as a reputable breeder will not mind at all and will give you helpful information for you to take away with you.

Planning the Homecoming

There are certain items that you should buy before hand: Brush or Hand mitt for grooming Collar and leash. Water bowls that are heavy, non-tippable and easy to clean I prefer metal, as they can’t be chewed, Crate or a bed Toys that are designed especially for dogs I would well recommend the Kong. Well- insulated doghouse. High quality nutritionally complete and balanced food.
