Bobbie update

Postby carolmystic » Thu Oct 18, 2007 5:24 pm

Hi All, have been away from pet chat for a while due to attention needed by Bobbie.
she is getting on really well and growing so fast i cant keep up.
she has been chipped and because she got the all clear about her eyes we
have been able to get her insured.
she started puppy classes last week, but what they told us, we were already doing anyway and she was the only puppy there so we had the hall to ourselves.
she sits at the road now without being prompted and will sit on command. am working on the down now and she learning very fast.
she is beautiful and everyone loves her.
we are really proud of her, as her start in life wasnt really good. she has put on weight and now the vet says she need not go back to get weighed as she is doing so well. thats good news. we are getting her used to being brushed but would just like to eat it i think. chap loves to be brushed and she has even tried to eat the brush when he is being brushed.
we still havent stopped the chewing but are getting baby gate to put up at the front room where all the wires are. she is coming on in leaps and bounds. here are a few pics of her as she is now.

Hi Carol!
Wow she is growing fast, and into a very beautiful girl :D Glad to hear everything is going well.
Your puppy class was the opposite to the one I took Obi to last week, there were 18 puppies altogether 8O We didn't learn anything new either but I don't nind as it is more for socialising really. Obi can do sit, down, paw, chase your tail, stay and rollover so far, I can't keep up with him! Then again he is a Springer!
Look forward to more updates and piccies of your lovely girl.

Hi, does Obi nip. bobbie is terrible at it. she is rougher with hubby than she is with me but on occasion she has hurt me. Obie is doing well. how old now. we havent done the paw yet and i find it difficult sometimes to train her as she want to play with chap all the time. she does listen when she wants to. she is getting ok with the cats now although charlie doesnt accept her as much as the other cat. rocky (cat) has even been fussing bobbie, just rubbing his head round her. nice to see as rocky does that to chap all the time and will get in chaps bed with him and curl up. about the nipping, she is gentle with our grandson who is only 3 and so far hasnt hurt him, but she has made hubby bleed. she doesnt mean to do it i dont think, its not done through being nasty just when she plays.
the reason we decided to take her to puppy classes is because as she is gonna be a big dog i need to know in myself that i can handle her and that she will come to me when she is called etc. she is a beauty and what a result that for all the problems she had she is turning into a really lovely dog. we think she was lovely from the beginning but then we fell in love with her when we saw her for the first time. lol.

Hmmm, no, Obi doesn't really nip. He did jump off the bed today while I was hoovering under it and scratched me on the eye lid though-ouch!
What I did with Obi when he was a bit rough was make a high pitched yelp whenever he went OTT, and removed my hand. He soon learnt that I wouldn't play with him when he did it. To be fair though he was with his brothers at least part of the time for longer than most pups, and learnt good bite inhibition as a result. The yelp or 'ah ah' noise should help though, if you are consistent.
Obi is 14 weeks old now, and growing like a weed!

Hi, so they are the same age. bobbie is 14 weeks and she too is growing so fast. maybe one day her head will catch up with her ears.
i have tried the yelping and she does stop, but soon forgets that she has bitten too hard. it is strange though because not once has she hurt grandson. not even his face, she loves it when he comes down and not once has he said she has hurt him. she seems so gentle with him. he gets on the floor and plays with her and she jumps over him, yet when i try to play with her she tries to eat my hands. well we will keep trying the yelping, i have even tried growling at her and she doesnt like that. i do stop playing with her if she bites and i push her away. i am hoping she will grow out of it if we keep up with letting her know it is wrong. if she is still doing it when she is fully grown i think she would be able to take my hand off and then it would be very hard to type on here. lol. thanks for advice and we will keep on with it.

hi
i am pleased every thing has gone so well !!!
you all deserve a happy ending and it seems to me like your getting one and you will have lotts of years with a fab dog !!!
with the nipping - dont even let him put his teeth on you at all not playing not gently nothing and the minute he puts his mouth on you even your clothes say a firm "no" and fold your arms and look away - once he knows their is no fun to biting he will stop .
pups and dogs are great with kids they seem to know to be a litte more care full.

:D Hi Everyone, have been away from here for a while, but thought i would pop back to let you know how Bobbie is doing. she has grown so much now and is just over 4months old. pleased to say the nipping has now stopped. she is coming along really well with the training and is walking to heel. that is when we are on our own, but if chap comes with us or hubby she will pull until she up beside them. we usually walk in the front and she will walk as i said to heel. she is not allowed to walk in front of me though. she loves the car and both dogs sit in the back and are really good. chap is fine but i think he is finding it a little difficult with her as she is bigger than him and can stand over him. they do play but not for long as chap will let her know when he has had enough. if she keeps on and we see that chap cant handle her we will then stop her from pestering him. we had no problems with her with the fireworks, she didnt bother about them at all. she is really coming into her own now and so lovely. the chewing has not stopped and dispite the marrow bones and her chews and toys she will still try to chew things. we have had to put locks on the doors to stop her getting into the front room and bedroom when we are out. they are both shut in the hallway and have the kitchen to sleep in. we dont go out much but on the odd occasion we do have to go out and cant take them then they are as i say shut out in the hallway. since we have put locks on the door and moved bought a new tv ariel as she chewed through that while we were out there have been no problems.
we still let her off the lead and she doesnt go far. if we start walking away she will run up and stay close. she ok with other dogs but does bark if she is on the lead at dogs and people, which we are trying hard to discourage. when she is off the lead she will bark at dogs but chap will go and say hello to the other dogs and then she will do the same so i am hoping that she will take notice of chap and not bark.
i think i mentioned when i first came on here that bobbie had a sibling with her and i was so worried about the poor little thing that my friend told someone who rehomes dogs, and she actually rescued this little dog. but one thing puzzles me the pup that was left was female but when they went in to get the pup the only one there was male. however i am pleased to say that bobbies brother is now in a foster home and waiting to be rehomed. good news i think. here are a few pics of bobbie as she is now. hope everyone is ok and that all the animals are fine.

Oh Wow! Bobbie is looking absolutely gorgeous :D
Well done for training her to heel, my Obi has learnt just about everything but that lol!
Good to hear that Chap puts her in her place when he's had enough, I wish Honey would do the same with Obi but she just sits there and takes it. Luckily he has Rosie to play with who is more fun so Honey doesn't get pestered too much lol.
Really pleased that Bobbie is doing so well, she is growing into a beautiful dog, I hope she never grows into those ears though, they are fantastic

Hi, thanks for replies. i would have loved it if her ears had stayed flopped over i think they are cute like that. she has huge ears but i cant ever see growing into them  the time has gone very fast, since we first got her, its so nice to see how she is now to how she was and whate state she was in when we got her. Obi must be getting big now as well as i remember they are about the same age. i was so pleased to hear that her brother is now ready to be rehomed. they have had to wait to rehome him because he had a bad reaction to his jabs. by the sound of it he is a lot like bobbie and i have seen a pic of him and they are very much alike.
bobbie has just had a mad 5 mins, running up the garden and back in, she knocked the water bowl over and was slipping and sliding everywhere. more work for me but very funny to watch.
we have trained her to sit (right from start so she is expert on that one) we have been doing the down with her, most of the time she does it but when i want her to do it so much at puppy classes she shows me up and doesnt do it. we are now trying the sit stay. she stays while you are there, like if someone knocks i say sit stay but as soon as i turn my back she is up and out the door. luckily she doesnt go far. we have a tiny wall round the garden so she can jump that with ease, but when she goes out there and the gate isnt open she doesnt bother going anywhere, if the gate is open she will try her luck and go out, but we call her and she will come back in. we have found an easier way of calling her, we just use her squeeky ball and she will come strainght back. so that is a good one. especially in the early morning when the post knocks and i am not dressed. we havent had to go chasing her she will come back, but i do get a bit anxiouse as we have the staff near us that flew at her before. so the sit stay is very important. the callback is ok but i am still a bit worried that one day she will not come. outside she is good but sometimes when she is in the garden i will call her to come in and she just sits and looks at me. still she only young. mind you i can remember the kids doing that as well.
