Building a bird playtop/gym

Is there anyone with any experience with building a bird play gym?

 

I need to know what materials are safe pleeease! Will dowel be ok? 

And also, chicken wire? Or string? are these safe? Thanks!

I would personally use some

I would personally use some rope and ditch the chicken wire as it may hurt them. I think it is great that you are going to set one up for your bird.
