Camping with cats?

So I'm currently facing a bit of a dilemma. My family is moving away from out current location. We own two cats, one belongs to me, and one belongs to my sister. My sisters cat is a very eccentric, mischievous, and she is around three years. My cat is eleven years old, and laid back. Now in any normal case I would take the two to the Veterinary clinic and have a mild sedative prescribed for the two. (I will still be talking to a vet, no worries.) Though, in this case it isn't simply a straight shot drive. We're camping our way there, with our cats. Now we do have a small, small trailer. Its around the size of a tent trailer, but instead of canvas it has solid walls that come into an A frame. Its a solid structure, with lockable windows and doors. We'll be camping our way there for two or three days. I don't know what to do. I really don't know what I would do if I lost them in the woods. If they run off while camping, I know I wont get them back. I fear the harness situation as well, for I know cats are agile and can escape them with ease. I also fear that if the trailer door is ever opened they will run out, but If I keep them in a carrier, amenities such as food and water, and a litter box are impossible.

Any tips?
