Cat Forums - Why doesn't my cat like other cats. Tiff - Fri Dec 23, 2005 12:04 am Post subject: Why doesn't my cat like other cats.
Can someone explain to me why my cat doesn't like other cats. When i got another cat my cat Clifford would beat up on it and so therefore we had to get rid of the other cat not Clifford. scraggles - Thu Mar 23, 2006 1:25 pm Post subject:
Hi I replied to this post last night but it hasn't come up. so if it does come up twice sorry. First of all cats are like people as we dislike so people some cats dislike other cats. Some of the time it is hard to introduce a new cat into the household where there is already a cat living. To help bring in a new cat
1. Its easier to bring in a kitten then a adult as the old cat feels less threatened.
2. Its best to get the a different sex then the old cat. If your cat is fixed then this won't matter as much.
3.when you pick up the new kitty put it in a spare room where the old cat can't get to it and were the new kitty can feel safe to explore its new home. keep new kitty in there for about a week so the old cat can smell the new kitty but not come face to fcae with it.
4. while the new kitty is in the room swap blankets and food bowls with each cat so each can get used to eachothers smell.
5.Let the old cat into the room you have been keeping the new cat and let the new cat explore the rest of the house.
6. Put the new cat in a cage the living room or a room which is used a lot by you. Let the two meet though the cage.
7. Feed the new cat in the cage and feed the old cat just outside the cage. If they both eat then you are on to a winner.
8. finally let them out together were you can watch them. They may fight a bit to find out who is going to be boss but it shouldn't be that bad. If they really go at eachother then seperate them and start again.
Some cats never get on but most will ingnore eachother and live in the same house without any problems. hope this helps having 4 cats of my own the above is what I did and they are all fine together now.

I do apologise that its taken do long for someone to reply to your post Tiff i can honestly say that i must have missed it as i dont remember seeing it before now.
Just like to add that i have 2 cats cleo and jess cleo came first then jess followed and he came here from stray and he was an adult and they have a love/hate relationship lol they always entertain my friends and guests by roliing around the floor cat scrapping but then they will calmly head off upstairs and have a snooze together in my bed so i wouldnt worry too much they will learn to live together when they know they are both there to stay.
You might want to refrain from adding your personal email from public postings aswell due to everybody being able to read it pm the member with your email details instead.

i hadn't seen this post either, so apologies from me too.
in the past i have owned loads of cats plust fostering them too, and most of the time they tended to get on fine, but i did have one cat who nobody got on with. i don't know why, but she constantly got battered by my others if she got in there way. eventually i had to get her rehomed in a single cat household. it broke my heart, but it was the right descision for her.
