Pet Chat - Pet Expert volunteers needed - PLEASE READ

Post subject: Pet Expert volunteers needed - PLEASE READ
to ensure that members asking for advice know who to ask, we are asking for members who are fairly experienced / clued up on a particular pet type to come forward and they will have a title assigned to them in the forums, i.e. Dog Expert, Cat Expert etc

So anyone who feels they have enough experience to field questions related to their particular area of expertise please post in this thread.

We are not limiting this to one expert per pet type, so can have 3/4 Dog experts etc Smile

Hi,
I have been around dogs for 50 years, from Cocker Spaniels, Beagles, Labs and of course Dalmatians. I am a C list judge for Dalmatians, have two with KC stud book numbers and my latest, being shown in Ireland, has just achieved his Junior Diploma (Irish Junior Warrant).
I have bred 5 litters over 10 years, been very involved in rescue and welfare and have a great interest in nutrition and health.

Post subject: Not sure if you would be interested but...
I consider myself an "amatuer expert" on holistic support for dogs and cats. I've used essential oils, energy medicine, homeopathy, bach flowers and nutritional supplements with myself and my animal companions. I have a wealth of personal knowledge as well as an extensive library.

I have a 10 year knowledge base that I'm more than willing to share.

If this a topic you are interested in included, just let me know.

Thanks!

i know I am new to the site...only joined today. I do not consider myself an expert but I do know an adequate amount about dogs. I worked on a farm for 4 years (it included exotics also), in a vets for 5 years and also work in animal welfare (5years) where many of the dogs have some form of behavioural problem. I have just finished a canine Behaviour and Psychology course (Distinction (blush)) and have just started a Higher Cynology course. I also feel that it would be helpful to me to know if any advice i give works, for future reference. As i said I am by no means an expert but i do have some knowledge. Perhaps when i am more established on the site and you know me better you would consider? I would like to be able to help.

I've got years of experience with dogs, cats, horses and ponies, well at least 20 years.

Have been helping trap feral cats etc for the last few months and still continuing to feed a 30 plus colony and still looking into the fostering of the feral kittens to tame etc, along with the possibilities of a pen in the garden for the cats protection (must get that sorted)!

I also did some fostering of dobermanns a few years ago.

Hiya, I'm a newbie. Me and my OH run a rescue haven for wild birds and owls so I would be happy to advise anyone on that side of things if I can help.

Neither of us have any formal training, we have learnt as we went along, often flying by the seat of our pants but we aren't bad on the knowledge front now

Pretty good on owls....will have some baby pics to show you soon Laughing Laughing

Ermm...slightly random...need an Environmental Expert? lol. Not enough to do with pets I guess...

I did a degree in Rural Environmental Science, so if anyone wanted to talk about environmental issues...which has something to do with animals but not pets...

Or, I know! How about a Vegetarian Expert?! Although not directly related to pets, I know people always ask about it and there have discussions in the past. Having done environmental science, I can advise on what sort of products are neutral and harmful to animals and the environment, and can even give recipes etc he he he. I know that vegetarianism is quite a common thought among animal lovers. I would never force people to "convert", but I can give advice from 2 years of experience and cooking! I won't be biased and can reel off about the benefits of free range vs battery etc.

I wish I had something more "petty" to contribute lol...I'm just clutching at straws here. Would be nice to offer advice about being veggie or helping people make informed food choices such as try buying you vegetables from locally sourced places, buying meat from a traditional butchers instead of supermarkets which contain additives etc...(see, I won't preach to the meat lovers lol, I can see both sides of the argument)

I just feel the vegetarian debate comes across every animal lovers mind every once in a while.

If you still need volunteers having been on here for three years or so and having 12 ish cats and the odd 3 or 4 dogs I'd like to help.

For those that don't know I have the cats including blind and deaf and the dogs including the stroppy great reaking Samoyed and a deaf border collie. Plus have rats, snakes etc............ oh and a pet fox!!!! Honest this pesky thing feasts in my kitchen and claws at my door to get in. I really can't recall adopting it - but it probably has a bit of paper saying that I did at some point whilst being accosted by the animal rights people in town lol x
