Wanting to get opinions on why members are joining petchat but then not joining in on the forums.

It maybe simply that you have joined and forgot the link address i know i certainly have done this on a number of occasions.

We would also like to know what makes you stay or not stay on the site

I would appreciate your honesty.

Since joining i must admit that it seems to be hard work to get topics flowing.There seems to be plenty of people out there reading what people have put but aren't bothering to reply.I have been in the chat rooms as well and end up talking to myself Embarassed

I have noticed that when i log on there are plenty of guests online but hardly any members,is that because they aren't bothering to log on?why is that?

This site has plenty of choice as to what your pet chat requirements are but there does seem to be a lack of response.It is a little dis-heartening when you post and don't receive a reply.Most of the time i have and it's nice to see that there are people out there listening to what your problem is.

It would be nice to get some really good topics going on that lots of people will join in with.It would be nice to chat with other members after all isn't that what this site is all about-PETCHAT.

Hi. I check it each time i get home from the petshop but most posts allready been answered with a reply, usually more or less what i would put. So not much posting from me, but always in the background in case i can help etc. (even if lateish in evening)

By the way, had to fit harness to the cutest wolf pup today....if i work out how to post pics i will post a few of customers pupps if anyone into looking at other peoples new bundles of joy.

as there are new members joining by the day but they obviously dont stick around we used to have a lovely bunch of chatterboxes and they have all left us Crying or Very sad

Mike i would loove to see pics of your customers wolf pups as i'm sure everybody else would, so get posting.

One possible problem is that is may be too broad. A lot of people suffer from tunnel vision when it comes to pets, and have an interest in one or maybe two species which dilutes it a bit - I have come on day after day and being dog obsessive, find nothing of interest has come up (possible very few posts at all being dog related) so move on. Even within one species, there are many "factions" so with multiple species it could end up very fragmented. I know it's a bit of a self-perpetuating problem - more posts will generate more interest and more posts - but something needs to kick this off in the first place.
(Also, I can't get broadband where I am - plus I am now working full time - so the days of lurking for hours and creating topics are gone for me. It's expensive slow dial up these days Sad

However I do find that as people are not posting like they do on the sister site I tend to only pop on once a day maybe, whereas LF I am on there all the time!

I think you are right about the fact there are numerous topics, DOGSEY is the same for me, there are far too many topics and sub threads, I can't be bothered to trawl through them do I just skip to the onces I am interested in and then only once per day.

Dog pages on the other hand is fantastic again fast moving new topics and threads being created all the time, but the thing that all the topics and threads have in common is pet rescue.

There you go my opinion and two penneth worth Very Happy

i've been a bad petchatter for the last month, but seem to be flying around everywhere at the moment without much chance to sit on here for more than a few minutes. we move into our new place next friday though so things should start to settle back to normal. plus we have had some wilson problems, he has been a very stressed out young man. hopefully once we get in our own place i can get his routine back on track.
he needs lots of tlc at the mo.

I think what is said above about there being a broad range of subjects might be a slight contributing factor but there are plenty of huge USA based pet forum websites that thrive so it cannot solely be that.

i would love to know what the problem is so we could do something about it Wink

Forums usually reach a sort of critical mass where a number of "regulars" post on them and then suddenly it just grows exponentially, but so far Petchat hasn't seem to have got there Sad

All I can say is I think its great.
I haven't been a member for long but have both enjoyed it and found the advice supportive and invaluable.
I love all the different categories and of course pet owners would probably only pick sites relevant to their pets.
I'll be honest and say I have never gone on the reptile site as I have no real interest for them.
Perhaps it is due to the summer! Confused

In winter would more people get online?
As for improvements - I'm not sure how to make it better.

ive been here a little while (but then again waiting in the dentist for 30 mins seems like a long time of my life wasted to me

although i have no experience with anything, i just post a load of random rubbish, and completely change the whole subject of the topic

I think its important that everyone feels comfortable enough to air any worries or queries and to know that no one is going to 'laugh' at you.
GP don't do yourself down - you own a gerbil (I have too in the past, they're great pets) and a rabbit and so you have lots to contribute to such owners. We all love our pets but we can't all be vet nurses, behaviourists or the like. Me and Coliel think you are great and you make us smile with some of your quirky replies - don't ever change!! Laughing

you are all so smart and funny. it wouldn't be petchat without you all...
i love finding out new information on the posts and its great having people answer my questions...
its so easy to use apart from me getting a picture on my sig Rolling Eyes

. this site is perfect....

i recommend it to everyone with pets....its always here for you...

Hi, i'm maryjane and only joined today. I was feeling in need of some advice about my baby puss. I think for me it would be a case of if no one responded to any posts that would be the only thing that make me think it's not worth bothering. I've read loads of topics and think forums like these are brilliant especially when you have no family or small circle of friends who don't have pets (like little saddo me!"!!)

I agree that it is too broad for me. I have owned all sorts of animals but don't have time to look in every section. I just check the dogs and cats and sometimes the horses. I would be happy with four or five categories to be honest.

Perhaps most pet owners are busy with caring for their pets. I only found this site because I am staying at my brother's house in the USA and my dog is at home with a dog sitter. If I was at home I would be out walking twice a day for a several hours so less time for websites!

Certainly when I had horses there would have been no time at all!! All that poo picking and grooming and feeding and watering and drooling over Laughing

i feel like i do help some people who are having problems with there pets which is a really nice feeling
and the people who are on here love animals as much as i do
i hate the other chat site as it all about meeting somone and talking a load of crap u must know what i mean
