Shows - Shows this weekend? spottydog - Thu Dec 07, 2006 11:35 pm Post subject: Shows this weekend?
While some of you are strutting your stuff at LKA, we have another big Open in Dublin, same venue as last week. After that, we have the Dublin Champ show on 27th which is usually a major event with lots of hung over handlers and whingey kids!
Then it's all over for this year .......
Anybody going somewhere other than LKA or Minority Breeds Open in Dublin? Good luck if so....

Thanks. I'll report back
The judging doesn't start until noon and we may have to wait our turn, usual scrummage trying to get in and out of the venue, plus I am in a couple of variety classes and hope they don't clash with the breed. we had a really bad show this time last year, plus the judge tomorrow for one of the variety classes really hates Deccy but it is for JD (Irish JW) winning dogs so I entered because I could! Deccy was the first Dalmatian to achieve the Junior Diploma and he is still the ONLY Dalmatian to do it so we will wave the flag for the breed at least. spottydog - Sun Dec 10, 2006 7:04 pm Post subject:
Well I'm back from the Minority Breeds All Breed Open Show in Dublin, and what a lovely time I've had
Got there in plenty of time to find that utility group was right at the end plus judging never starts on time in Ireland, so I got Deccy settled in his crate and had a look at some stands. The Irish Kennel Club was selling some really nice clothing and bits & pieces, so I treated myself to a scarf and a beautiful waterproof jacket, with a fleecy inside, both with the Irish Kennel Club emblem embroidered on, not too expensive either
Then I found that the variety classes were being run the same time as the breed classes so I had to withdraw, since if I lost in a variety class and went Best of Breed I would not be able to go to the Group.
While I was waiting, I got chatting to a woman who happens to live a few miles from me so an open invitation to coffee there, then the Pastoral Group judge whose dog I handled a couple of times in the summer came over, her bitch lost her entire litter of 8 Samoyeds as she has suddenly developed diabetes, currently at the vets on a drip She said she had no idea what she put up, or why! What do you say to that!
Anyway, it was finally our turn. Change of judge to a woman, original judge had a cold apparently, lucky for us as Deccy is less sure of men. He won Open Dalmatian dog or bitch, then we were up against a good puppy and went BOB! Particularly satisfying as the puppy won puppy dog Stakes, then went Best Puppy in Show! I felt quite optimistic about the Group then, as Deccy has won 3 this year and clearly the judge liked him.
Eventually the Group. A big one, full of quality which is what happens at Dublin, it's more like a Premier show in the UK. Then - for reasons I couldn't imagine or even guess - the judge who was supposed to do our breed appeared to do the Group Oh well. Male judge, no chance. Off we all went, behind me was a standard poodle which did everything except turn itself inside out on the move. The owner took it philosophically and complimented Deccy, said she would be surprised if we weren't placed as he showed so well - and he did! His fear of men seemed to have evaporated, he stood like a rock, even wagged his tail, moved like a dream which he can when he feels like it
We went Group 2! The poodle lady congratulated me, what a lovely lady. Delighted with that with the standard there, had our pic taken with the winner a nice Shiba Inu for the Irish dog papers - that will be on the net tomorrow as they both have websites with results & pics. I expect I will look like a bag lady as it has been stormy here!
back home now, very tired, dogs have crashed out!
