A Dalmatian that I bred is starting to do well at agility, despite sneering looks when he turns up, when people see how good he is they are silenced! Laughing

The owner's second dog is coming along well, too. There are quite a few Dalmatians doing agility now and it's great to see them do it. So don't be put off having a go if you have a breed not normally associated with agility, you could be pleasantly surprised. We have agility with some of the Champ shows here in Ireland and many of the crosses do well too.
Me? I am nowhere near fit enough!!! Embarassed

Believe it or not but i reckon i could run my Staffy round an agility course,she loves jumping over park benches and even goes down the slide(much to the amusement of kids and parents).She is extremely agile and very quick.Not too sure about the weaving poles though Laughing

I must admit that is the reason why I don't like watching agility or flyball on the telly because they are all BC. Not my favourite breed and it makes it all rather boring. Varity is the spice of life. I start agility next year with the mini poodles!

People sometimes forget that the poodle is in fact a "proper" dog and very versatile. I have seen a standard poodle doing a high level of obedience, and very good he was, too!

I want to train mine up for working to the gun, I've heard of others who use their poodles for what they are bred for!

Why don't you do a piece on their history and uses, a lot of people (myself included) are probably in the dark about that Very Happy

i would love to see different breeds doing agility,mini poodles that would be interesting,dallys aswell.
I must admit(please don't be offended)that i have never really gone for the poodle as they always seem so poncy,but i would be interested to learn about their working skills etc.

I love to see fly-ball with the Collies but i am sure there are other breeds out there that are just as agile don't you think?

I'm not offended Tanya I thought they were poncy too, now I wouldn't have anything else! I know they do ABC agility (anybreed other than a collie). I just wish they showed more on the telly of other breeds.#

I am dying of frustration. "Polidot Thyme 'n' Motion" aka Skittle (great name for an agility dog! Very Happy

) had his second competition today. His owner has emailed me to say have I seen the results on the net, (private webring for Dally owners) unfortunately nothing has come through yet....I emailed her back an hour ago and am still no wiser! Rolling Eyes

In the meantime, here is Skittle, who is Polo's Grandson, at 7 weeks:

I love Dalmations,i remember the first kennels i worked at(20yrs ago now eek!!!)when they used to come in the other kennel hands and i would have to stand outside their pens banging the metal feeding dishes to sort out the deaf ones Sad

ooooohhhh how CUTE is that Dally pup - I WANT HIM!!!

My Ruby Lab has been doing agility since october she is 15 months and fabulous at it!!! She is a bit scared of the see saw atm though.

I am getting a dalmatian pup next year (jul or sep depending upon seasons/matings etc) and plan to take him to agility too as soon as he is old enough of course Razz

Another lab
2 GSD
1 Doberman
1 lab cross
2 terriers

being a newbie to dogs and agility I didnt even realise other breeds were looked down on Confused

I do not compete at agility and flyball any more, but i did for many years.

I must admit in all those years that I never looked down on any breeds/ crossbreeds , whether they were competing or not. Keep agility an all breed activity, that is why it is such fun.

If people love collies, they have collies, If they love Labs , they have Labs, you do what you choose, with your chosen breed, FOR FUN! I think it is fabulous to see many different dogs competing, but please do not slate people because thay love Collies, just as you would not wish to be slated for owning your choice of dog.

One of the top competing dogs this year is in fact a crossbreed.

I don't slate anyone for owning what they want as long as they have got the dog for the right reasons. I just find watching collies competing boring. I'm not a collie fan at all. I just wish they would show the mini classes on the telly but they only show the collies so I switch off!

A springer would make a good agility dog,i have seen the speed of some of them and it is amazing,but as biased as it sounds collies(borders)have to be the more popular choice for agility because of the sheer speed they turn at and their attention,i have never seen dogs that give you more eye contact or concentration(now i ain't saying there are not other breeds that excel at agility etc)but we do see more collies now because i guess that is what people go for in an agility dog because that is what they are used to seeing(plus collies are live living duracell batteries they just keep going and going).

Our agility club has a real variety of breeds who attend , poodles , gsds , springers , lurchers , manchester terriers etc etc . we arent just a club for collies and we welcome all with whatever breed they own . its all about having fun !!! Smile

I'd love to do agility, but I doubt there is any airedale in the country who could make a good go of it, they do their own thing.... Rolling Eyes
