Smokey had been missing since the 8th of November, today we found him by the side of the road. It is a road that we are on almost dailly but it was only today that we seen him. My oh went down the road this morning and came back to say that he had seen a cat by the side of the road and actually thought it was the little tortie feral that we feed from along the road. So this afternoon went down and stopped but at that point did not think that it was Smokey! Anyway came home and phoned my friend who I help with the ferals and asked if she knew who locally might have a scanner and she had recently got one, so collected the boy and took him up and even really before she scanned him I knew, my heart is aching tonight but I just keep thinking at least we have him home to put him to rest with his old friend Minky who died in May.

I just can't believe he crossed that road, I never in a million years thought that he went over there, and where has he been lying? That I will never know, I can only imagine.

SONG FOR SMOKY
(S L Smith)

The empty cat bed in the corner,
Abandoned toys beneath the chair,
Unopened cans still in the cupboard,
Hard to believe that you're not there.

No muddy pawprints on the counters,
No furballs sicked up on the stair,
No purring shape upon my pillow,
Hard to believe that you're not there.

The grassy mound there in the garden,
The absence of your soothing purr,
I still look round, still half-expecting,
To see your form, but you're not there.

A trick of light, a sudden shadow,
A moving curtain, draft of air,
A glimpse of shape at edge of vision,
Still can't believe that you're not there.

One day there'll be another feline,
To accept this love I need to share,
But the cat bed lies awhile, abandoned,
For now, it's hard that you're not there.

Thank you all, the song is lovely and so true.

Smokey is laid to rest and will be running free at the bridge, but so missed especially by me.
