My lab bella is a rescue dog and still very very excited when it comes to 'walkies' but unfortunatley its more like her taking me for a walk! if u get what I mean Rolling Eyes

I brought her the halti (the one that goes round the nose) but It was broken within 2 months. I got chattin with a guy with lab's at the vet and he reckonmended the LUPI Harness.
Anyone know if this'll work or have any other surgestions please share, thanks.

She is well trained just gets giddy when lead comes out.

Hi kat, Yes I have a Lupi harness for my poodle. Not because she pulls - but because an ordinary lead and collar make her cough. I think it is a good thing, and yes I can see that it would work very well with a dog that pulls - without choking it to death as nothing is near the throat.

i dont have a lupi harness, i have a nylon harness i think its nylon anyway.. its great i should of got one when my dog was a puppy because the dog is easier to handle and its great as the dog is not pulling it and choking or wheezing, and if your dog trys to pull on a harness it not gonna get very far as the harness has control of the dogs body, not just the dogs head....

I have lupi harness's for mine but found after a while they mastered the art of dragging me around again so back to square one Rolling Eyes

I have invested in 3 canny collars to use when I take all 3 out together and found they are brilliant Very Happy

For our labx we have the halti. Its great he doesnt pull at all. We did have a harness but he started pulling with that on which is why we got the halti in the end

thanks for all your sugesions, very helpful

Been looking round on net and think i might try a full body harness as seen pics of lupi and considering how quick the halti broke I dont think the lupi would stand a chance with bella Wink

i have tried harnesses with my dog and it is a disaster waiting to happen. it gived him full body strength when he pulls. at least with a head device you will have complete control of his power. 80 % is through the nose. guide the nose and the rest will follow.

I agree with Michelle here

Harnesses were deisgned as equipment for sledge dogs to enable them to pull, which means its not a good thing to have on a dog that alrteady pulls! Confused

My suggestion would be this.. Get your self a training lead, the long one, attach this to a normal collar and wrap the long part of the lead around the chest of the dog and back into your hand, you now have a braking system, also you are SHOWING your dog where you want it to be.

Start off slowly, a few steps, use the close or heel word and reward when they get it right, perisitance is the key here.

I am afraid, Halti's and gentle leaders do not generally stop a dog from pulling, they just ride up into their eyes causing the dog to fight them.

If you still need to use the halti, use 2 leads, one in your right hand attached to the halti and one in your left attached to the collar, you then have far more control.

The lupi harness works differently to a usual harness, you would have to see one to see how it works, but they will stop a dog pulling. I will try to find a link, so I can show you what I mean Very Happy

I have used one before, and they wont break it, because they cannot get enough bodyweight behind it to break . they look flimsy, but are very effective .

over the gentle leader wilson used to pull when his focus wasn't on me, now though we just walk with a loose lead most of the time, it is there just in case he tries to bolt, so that i don't get pulled over. like anything they need to be used in the correct manner for them to work.

Furbabies sells all the types of harnesses mentioned above i.e. Halti Harnesses, Lupi Harnesses, Gentle Leaders and a few not mentioned such as the Canny Collar etc

I would recommend Lupi harnesses as a very good preventative against pulling due to the way they operate, we used to use one on our Lab Bradley
