Fish Forums - molly babies!!!!!!! poppydog83 - Wed Jul 04, 2007 9:59 am Post subject: molly babies!!!!!!!
Well a few weeks ago my client purchased 3 mollies for his fish tank,1 black,1 white/silver and 1 marble molly. The other day when i was doing a partial water change i discovered 7 baby mollies I made a tempory shelter for them so they wouldnt get eaten, then yesterday i bought a porper nursery type net thing. Some of the babies escaped but i managed to get 6 back, and i have seen the elusive 7th baby but i cant catch him to put him in with the others. Any way,i know which one is the male molly (the silver one)as he keeps displaying most of the time, and i think i know which is female molly (black one) as she is forever being chased by the silver one,but the marble one im not so sure just yet. Any advice really on how i can look after the babies until they are big enough to venture out into the rest of the tank again?

We have baby guppies and sword tails etc all the time we just leave them and watch them grow poppydog83 - Fri Jul 06, 2007 9:22 am Post subject:
Well i have bought a special net thing thats fixed to the side of the tank where the babies will stay until they are big enough to join the rest of the fish. I decided to put the baby fish in there as the group of neons we have keeping ganging up on the babies and wouldnt leave them alone. Im not sure how big they are when they are born as i didnt see them at first, mollys are livebearers meaning the babies are born alive.
Caviear (cant spell) is fish eggs, eugh i wouldnt eat it

Male livebearers have a modified fin at the bottom for fertilising the females, it is a spike so the one with the spike is a boy, however, they could well have been pregnant before he bought them!

what have you called them? poppydog83 - Fri Jul 06, 2007 6:40 pm Post subject:
how long are fish pregnant for before they have the babies? We havent named them yet. Our thing at work is our nicknames are old peoples names, and everyone has named one of the fish after themselves. My fish is named and my name is Phyliss
