Do you think its safe to use baby wipes on dogs ?

My dog is a Vizsla, so very short haired. She never washes herself (well apart from her bum), and her belly often has bits of mud on it - plus she smells horrid around her belly region .... like a musty armpit !!! Even if you tickle her belly, your hand smells afterwards.

So, although she gets bathed occasionally, i thought i could give her belly a wipe down with a baby wipe after a walk.

What do you think ? Will it be harmful to her skin ? I suppose not as they are for delicate skin.

baby wipes are fine Wink

You can get specialist doggy wipes too though see here wipes

If you can uses baby wipes on dairy cows udders, im sure it wouldnt be a problem for dogs

thank you far this as merlin often gets muck around his nose it is pink and i also worry about it burning do you think i could use sun lotion wipes on his nose?

ps i have been using some old horse sun tan lotion do you think that would be better still ?

I use sun block stick for my Daisy cats ears as she is white and gets sunburned - the only thing with the old stuff you have is that it goes off with age and the effectiveness is reduced so I would buy new if I were you - you can get special pet sun block though see here Pet_sunscreen

I always use baby wipes on my dogs , for general muck they get on them and its not done them any harm .

exelent i cant buy on line but ill pop to the pet shop and buy some sun tan lotion for merlin - i had not even thought about it being out of date i had a look and it was out of date by-4 years!!!!!
so thank you very much and im sure merlin would like to thank you too as luckily we have only had a few hot days so far!!!!
but now we shall be prepared.

i use the pet wipes for my bubbles inbetween baths. i buy them from the supermarket but they are obviously more expensive than baby wipes.

his brother and sister are hairless cresties and have to have suntan lotion on when its even a little sunny. they use a spray as its easier to apply. any sun lotion is suitable, just make sure its a high factor.

Generally, anything that is suitable for babies (externally) is safe on dogs in my experience and usually a good deal cheaper than "dog" products! Most show bags contain baby wipes, I shampoo mine in Johnson's baby shampoo and basic skin creams are good too for minor problems, especially Sudocreme. Easy to get hold of, too..... Very Happy

I hate being ripped off by "specialist" products, many of which don't even work. It's getting almost as bad as the overcrowded pet food market Rolling Eyes
