When theres children out there who don't even have shoes or proper clothing, I find it somewhat sickening to see dog clothes, and also very degrading for the animal.

If you can waste money on dog clothes, why not take a trip to the poorest of the poor, how about Romania, Africa or even children living in the poorest parts of the UK for **** sake! If you don't want to travel far, I can name a few parts in Belfast as a start. Crying or Very sad

i dont think people who buy clothes for their dogs should be made to feel bad or forced to give money to poor kids in romania!! i do think it can go a bit far sometimes but i dont see the harm within reason.

the WHAM show coming up soon has a best dressed doggie comp and im sure everyone who goes will be saying "aaahh" and "how sweet" because its a bit of fun. we as humans dress up and go to fancy dress parties, its not an every day occurrence for dogs.

Bubbles has a hi-vis coat to wear in the rain/dark - is that okay or do you think i am cruel??!!

in america there are allsorts of cosmetic operations for animals its crazy, i think a few clothes can be accepted as long as the dogs are comfortable. x

Waterproof coats and ones which have reflective parts are fine, it has a purpose, my dog has a waterproof coat, but I do find dressing up dogs in costumes daft, but thats just my opinion. Wink

Bit of a recurring theme, here. This discussion keeps coming up...

IMO, putting clothes on a dog that needs them for health reasons, or warmth or protection against weather or other conditions is totally different from dressing them up like little dollies.

I'm not objecting to somebody putting a hat or reindeer antlers on a dog for a short joke - but to dress the dog up as something it is not is definitely not kind to the dog. They may tolerate it, and may even enjoy the attention, but what a sad way to get it.

You want a dog? Treat it like a dog. You want a dress-up doll? Get a dress-up doll.

i have a coat for my dog also it has a reflective strip on it and its to keep her warm as she has arthritus. and HD, so i think if its helping your dog i dont see why not.. but the costumes are stupid and my dad always say to me even when jet needs her coat hes like she already got a fur coat she dont need it.. but i see she needs it infact i think she needs a new one as the one i have ive had for 2 1/2 years so its a bit tatty..

but personally i will never dress my dogs in costumes, and other clothes as an acessorie thing as a dog isnt an acessorie to be paraded about..

But i see ribbons around the neck as ok as dogs have collars anyway..
i even do that to my dog lol its cute.. but costumes are silly..

ok, he's not quite a dog but... (but my friends are convinced he is Rolling Eyes)

i agree with shadylady, ribbons flowers etc look cute, but costumes are just OTT especially on little chihuahuas that they carry in their handbags Rolling Eyes
