hi
perhaps their needs to be a proper piece on here about what petchat dose and what the running costa are.
maybe people on here could help with things you have to pay for?
rather than just donate money as how will any one know it is being spent on worth while things !!!

What about a raffle, then get a ticket pay for ticket and that will go towards petchat

id b more than happy to contribute to running costs of the site
coliel - Sun Sep 16, 2007 9:59 am Post subject:
hi
i would be happy to give some money too , but i dont know what the money will be usedfor.
what running costs?
Violette - Mon Sep 17, 2007 3:32 pm Post subject:
Well, I guess the admin staff need to be paid, and also the techies who create the system and keep it running (and created the options where we can post pics and change signatures and create various special effects on our screen names.... and dear knows how many other things that they do that I don't understand because I am a total technophobe! ).
I thought, though, that the costs would be covered by advertising revenue from companies wanting to reach all us pet lovers.
But maybe that isn't enough to cover the costs?
Like Coliel, I do think that maybe Admin should give us a wee bit more information on what they need, and why - though I love using this site and would be glad to help cover its costs....
But a wee skinflint part of me doesn't like just handing over money - I would like to know why???? Please, Admin?
Hellooooo-oooo?
Hcollie85 - Mon Sep 17, 2007 4:03 pm Post subject: petchat
Why dont you pm or email Admin, if you dont want to do it ill easily do for you
Heather
coliel - Mon Sep 17, 2007 4:20 pm Post subject:
hi
its a good idea to pm admin how ever i think it would be better for them to tell every one and explain what is needed and how much it costs etc.
im not saying i wouldnt contribute only that i want to know what im paying for and im sure other people must think the same as no one has actualy given any money as yet !!

Hcollie85 - Mon Sep 17, 2007 5:03 pm Post subject: petchat
if anyone has the guts to do just say the reason, if you want ill pm him if no oneone else wants to.

I have no objection to emailing or pm-ing admin - but that would be a personal correspondence.
The request for donations is made publicly on the homepage, and it would be best if the explanation was equally open - that's all.
I just think it is a good principle, right across the board, that if anybody wants someone else to donate money for something, then they should explain what it is for.
Hcollie85 - Mon Sep 17, 2007 7:04 pm Post subject: petchat
So who do you think should pm and that person can say what other people want to say.?
Im finding some posts really hard to understand right now

I dont know if this will explain anything or not but i will say anyway. My partner is a memeber of a car forum and they had asked for donations aswell to keep the site running as the lads couldnt afford to keep it running themselves. They asked for a £10 donation but offerd car stickers and other things in return.
Unfortunatley they never got enough donations and the site was shut down. My partner said its not exactley cheap to keep one running but i wouldnt know seeing as i have only just worked out how to use a computer properly Hcollie85 - Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:09 pm Post subject: petchat
People wont be happy if this site is shut down, ive met the nicest people on the sit
Hmmmm
Heather
I think admin could of said something about that donation thing, if he hasnt allready

hi
it would be a shame for the foram to close down !!
how ever i would still lkie to know where the moey will be going?
i have no idea about what costs what but am very intrested in finding out.
but like violet i think the reasens should be put out on a proper poste explaining every thing to every one !!!

Hi all
Sorry been away on business, have I missed much..lol
As far as the donations are concerned;
The site is not closing down and never has been, so don't worry
It costs an absolute fortune to run and maintain a forum and on some forums members like to be able to contribute to the up keep, its not complusory and its not there to beat you around the head, its a bit like a collection box in the sweet shop.
On Lab forums, the sister site, we all pay a yearly subscription if we want to be regular posters, its a bit like a social club I suppose.
Does this help?
Hcollie85 - Wed Sep 19, 2007 8:03 pm Post subject: petchat
Yes it does thanks Natalie

im being a pain i know but i will happily donate money if needed but i would need to know the ins and outs as obviosly you may be just hoping to pockit the money!!! (i dont think you are) but all the same !

petchatadmin - Thu Sep 20, 2007 7:02 am Post subject:
hi sorry I too have been away, moved house etc
As Nat says, its just a collection box type affair.
Petchat is a fully dynamic website and runs on a server that I lease out. Obviously initially when I set the website up (Back in July 2004) there was a considerable amount of time and effort taken to do so.
As time progresses when I have time, I add functionality / tweak things etc
Petchat is growing and every month it consumes that bit more bandwidth, bandwidth costs money.
Petchat sits on a dedicated server (Its dynamic and is too power hungry a website to sit on shared cheap servers), the server it is on has some of my other websites on it, but that server costs around £1200 a year out of my pocket
The donations are completely and utterly voluntary, Petchat isn't closing down
It's just your way of saying thank you for the service that Petchat offers annestaff - Thu Sep 20, 2007 8:35 am Post subject:
I reckon you dererve a pat on the back Admin for keeping this site running all this time with no donations
I was absolutly gob smacked when I found out how some of the bigger boards pay for their servers, its a ridiculous amount of money coliel - Thu Sep 20, 2007 8:08 pm Post subject:
hi
can you not make your money by charging companys to advertise with you , also i thought you got money every time some one googles to get on here?
could you have special members who pay a monthly amount a bit like a magazine subscription?
what will hapen if no one dose donate money ?
