as long as he feels ready to get another dog, I'm not sure I would be ready so soon. will he go to a rescue centre?

he dont mind what breed he says a dogs a dog.. and hes going to our local pound he said.. to have a look there.
also he says why wait, hes a person that lives for today not tomorrow..
but if it was me i would wait as id feel guilty wid being it so soon...

Yea, people grieve in ther own ways. For some, they like to take time and reflect, others want to get back in the game asap. I think with the dog being so old, your uncle must have kind of been psycologically prepared for her passing. I know that sounds awful, but it wasnt a sudden thing so he might have gone through some of the grieving process already as she was going through her final stage so perhaps that's what enables him to ready for a new dog so soon.
I hope he finds another worthy companion! I suppose if he doesnt mind what breed he gets, just to go along to the pound and find a personality match! Good luck to your uncle!

yep georgie his dog did go downhill gradually she was deaf and blind but she still had a great sense of smell but she kept falling down the stairs , and then eventually she lost the use of her back legs.. my uncle loved her so much but i think he finds his house empty without a dog and he really is the best candidate for a dog as he lives in like a farmhouse with enough room where he rents out his fields for owners of horses and his house is right by the beach 5 min walk away.. he lives in guernsey..

Ooo yes, the location sounds like a dog's paradise! So many different places to explore! I hope he finds what he is looking for, that will be a lucky dog with such a loving owner and fields and sand and sea to frolic in!

Awww sorry to hear about Georgie I hope you uncle finds the perfect companion though. I can understand why he wants a dog so soon, when we lost one of our dogs years ago the house felt so empty that mom and dad got Sky.

Sorry to hear about your uncles loss it does take a long time for some people to get over the loss of a dog
When our dog died it took 5 years for us to get another one the pain of losing our old dog was enormous and it was like losing one of our children
but we are glad we have our Herbie he a great little fellow so hope your Uncle finds a new dog soon as it is obvious he is ready to get another one

what is parvo?
Koolkat - Wed Nov 28, 2007 8:41 pm Post subject:
When a dog contracts parvo, they become very ill and experience significant abdominal pain. The virus damages the intestinal lining, causing it to slough.
Most puppies infected with parvo are unable to eat and rapidly become dehydrated. This results in a significant loss of electrolytes, which causes them to become very weak. Often dehydration is the official cause of death in dogs with parvo.
Most dogs that contract the parvo virus are in danger of dying from dehydration and malnutrition, not the parvo virus itself. Parvo most often affects puppies because their immune systems are not as mature as older dogs.
In addition, other symptoms include:
high fever
lethargy
depression
loss of appetite
gastrointestinal distress such as vomiting and bloody, smelly diarrhea
If your dog is experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important that you get help, as parvo spreads quicky.

I won't lie hun, it is very nasty! My old dog Josie had it when she was about 6. Our vet said there was a 15% chance that she would survive, so you can imagine how anxious we were waiting for the phone to ring in the morning!!! She survived! Dont think the worst, she might be a little fighter!
I realy hope she makes it, please keep us all posted! Please get well little Noma xxxxxxxxxxxxx lots of hugs!!!!!!!
