okay, here's my story. last week in my homeroom class at my high school (which we only go to once a week) our teacher told us that he was raising chickens. some of the eggs were hatching and we were able to watch them. well, this week they are so little and they are freakin adorable! we were able to pet them and hold them while they were in their cage! growing up, i always had pets. at one point i had over 10 pets so my family is soo strict about getting them now because "i don't take care of them". buuut i have been CRAVING a new pet lately. and when mr. ferrell told us that he was giving the chickens away i've had my eye on them ever since. he gave me a permission slip to fill out.. which has to be signed by a parent or guardian. i know my mom will say no.. so i'm gonna forge it lmao cause i want one so bad!
i'm gonna sneak one of my old cages into my backpack (it fits! yay!) and get my baby chick tomorrow. i don't know how i plan on telling my mom yet.. i'm thinking about just letting it lose in the house and being like omfg! how did that thing get in here? anyways.. do you all have any advice for me? tell me everything you know about keeping chickens as pets haha! they aren't expensive are they?
i appreciate any advice! Hcollie85 - Wed Nov 14, 2007 9:21 pm Post subject: chickens
Becareful you dont drop them, it depends how small they are, if they are dropped make sure the ground isnt hard, or you may be in for a shock. Or your very lucky
i wouldnt think they are expensive, they eat grain and thats all i know.
i think the more they eat the more eggs the have, ITHINK, plus if eggs are warm then they are good for cooking i think.

baby chicks have to be kept warm for a good few weeks and they do get lonely i got just one chick a couple of weeks ago and i had to go and get another one because she was lonely and making a lot of noise and also do you know if it is a male or felmale chicken because male make a lot of nosie once they are 7 months old. they will need a hen house to go into at night and it would be a good idea to have some sort of avariy to keep them in as a fox could get to it
this site tells you a few things
