Fish Forums - Urgent advice needed - I think one of my fish is ill! Happy_Cat - Tue Dec 04, 2007 5:10 pm Post subject: Urgent advice needed - I think one of my fish is ill!
Hi,
I have 6 goldfish (the conventional orange colour) in my garden pond which I bought in May this year as juveniles. In the 7 months since then they've grown and filled out a lot. Today I noticed that the largest and fattest fish has got a thick white ring around each of its eyes and I don't know what should be done about this. Is it some kind of fungus? The fish's eyes are normal, it's just the white rings around them that are strange! Please get back to me as soon as possible about this if you can give me any expert advice!
Regards,

Hey there...sorry to hear about your fish!
Google "pop eye", as an image search as well as normal search...check out the description and the pictures and see if that may be it.
If that is the case, Melafix cured popeye more than once in my 6" comet goldfish.
Generally with popeye, the eye(s) are protruding a little as well as the whitish clouding. Sometimes there is a bit of blood as well. (Sorry, I wasn't sure if you meant INSIDE around the eye, or OUTSIDE around the eye...popeye is inside)
If it's just white outside from the eye, it's possible it's just a change in colour. Goldfish are quirky like that and can change markings from time to time. If it appears fuzzy or furry, it may be a type of fungus.
In which case googling "fish diseases" in general can help you look up the symptoms and what may be the cause and the solution.
I hope that helped at least a little?
EDIT: Wow. I just assumed that a post at the top of the forum with no replies would be recent? I'll be checking dates from now on! haha
