Reggie has a fungal infection. He has been tested for ringworm and we have to take him to the vets tomorrow to get the results.

He has been poorly for a while now Sad

It started a few months ago, we noticed that his ears were getting dry and rather scabby. We took him to the vets and they thought it was an allergic reaction to his sand so we were told to try different ones. After 2 weeks of trying different ones there was no change. We took him back to the vets where he was diagnosed with a fungal infection. He was prescibed a solution that had to be dissolved and rubbed onto his ears twice a week for 4-6 weeks. After 5 weeks he was getting worse so we took him back to the vets and they told us just to continue using the solution. We were not satisfied with the way he was treated so we had to phone around a few vets and get him booked in with an exotic specialist ( about 30 miles away from where we live Shocked

).

The vets he now goes to kept him in overnight to do some skin tests and to remove all the scabs off his ears. He was given 3 lots of medication and had to go back last week. We took him back last week and were told to continue his medication for one more week and if there is no change then he has to go on a stronger treatment which is given in tablet form ( i'm not quite sure how we are going to get a chinchilla to eat tablets Laughing

).

His appointment is at 5.10 pm tommorrow and as there is no change i think he will be going onto the tablets. Also we will get his ringworm results. It's been up and down with him for a while now so to finaly get to the bottom of it will be a huge relief!

Thank you so much for replying to my question. I am so sorry that the poor little fellow is so poorly. I hope that they get to the bottom of his problem for you. Can't they do the tablet in liquid form like they can for humans. If the tablets are small enough I suppose they coud be broken and fed through a short piece of straw into his mouth. Poor you I hope you are able to sort something out. I wish you good luck and hope that he starts getting better soon. Good Luck!! xx Smile

Thankyou! Reggie has good and bad days at the moment. His feet seem to get better and then the next day they look awful again and his ears start to scab up, i think if he didnt have the E45 cream on them then they would just go back to being awful Sad

I have to stop putting it on today so i guess time will tell.

You need to give the cream time for it to work as puting it on every day

The vet said to put it on twice a day for 5 days and then stop using it so that he can see if his ears have healed Wink

Yeah Archie is big now! he is bigger than stumpy now but now quite as big as rumpy Laughing

Im going to put some more pictures up in a bit so you will be able to see just how big he realy is Wink
