My house rabbit became unwell on Tuesday, she wouldnt touch her hay or food, we took her to the vets where she stayed until yesterday, the vets have been given her meds and have syringed feed her, i have her home now btu she still wont touch any food and i cant syringe feed her as she is too strong, all she keeps doing is trying to eat the walls in our flat and the carpets so i have kept her locked in her room. She also had passed and food until she came home and she has done a few poo's now. Im a bit upset that the vets did not do any blood tests or scans on her belly. Im going to see how she is today and if no better will take her to another vets. Has anyone else had any experiances like this? Any help or advise on how to get her to feed is greatly appreciated, please help.

hi i read in my rabbit book that if a rabbit stops eating for any reason even if they are syringe feed they will find it hard to eat oraly again try and offer her some of her favorite treats veg or anything that may encorage her to eat oraly again hope this helps keep us posted and good luck

thanks for the reply, i have tried her with all treats, veg et she just turns away all she will eat is newspaper and cardboard and anything else that she shouldnt eat. I have eft some frsh timothy hay and a few pellets in her house she she is now and will keep a eye on her, othewise i think im going to have to take her to another vets, just so worried, she suffered with head tilt when we first got her and we thought she wouldnt make it through that bt she did and has been fine ever since apart from a slight tilt in her head. She is a house rabbit so has lots of love and attention just upsets me when she gets ill, it like having a child ha ha

Well i have been sitting with her and massaged her belly for a while and she has now eaten some pellets and a bit of parsley and greens. This is really good news as i have not seen her touch anything, i am going to keep popping in every half hour and do the same thing.

thats good news. how come your vet never offered you a scan or xray that may have but you in the picture a bit better hope all goes well and deffo keep us posted good luck and hope she's well again soon x

That is very good news that she has eaten, it sounds as though she has gut stasis which could easily be caused in the first place by eating wallpaper etc, so it is very important that she doesn't have access to things like that.
You are doing all the right things massaging her tummy and encouraging her to eat as much a possible, if she stops again or isn't pooing get her back to the vets.
What did the vets give you to syringe feed her? If it looks like powdered green stuff it's probably 'Rabbit Recovery' and you could try adding just enough water to make it stick together and form into into little balls. We find that alot of rabbits will happily eat these when they won't eat anything else. They smell like aniseed which bunnies seem to like
There is also a product called 'Fibre Plex' especially for bunnies with this condition which might help if you can get it into her! You can get it from the vet.

I've got a product called "petro-malt" for rabbits. I give it to him a couple times a week to help prevent blockages and hairballs.
Might not hurt to give that a go, if you're still having a problem, as it could just be a tummy full of hair that the poor guy can't puke out since they aren't capable of vomitting.
Definitely keep doing what you're doing, though, and if things aren't improving - take her to another vet!
