Well, are you all confused by the title of this post? Thought you all might be,so here the story goes........

I took florence and doodles to the vets the other day, doodles for his extremely smelly breath and florence coz i was concerned about her eyes. Well doodle has a bit of tarta (cant spell) but other than that he is ok, and florence it has been determined is possibly allergic to the wood shavings, hence the sore eyes. So i have since changed the bedding in the rats cage.

Now comes the interesting part. The vet gave her a check over, and has requested the other 2 maybe going in to check them over,if i want to. Anyway on checking florence over,he discovered she had 3 holes. An Anus,a vagina and a penis, but no testicals. And to top it off he hardly ever see's albino rats either,so i have a rare rat.

Oh she also bit me,quite hard. Didnt really pierce the skin on the underside of my finger but the teeth went straight through my finger nail OUCH!!!!!! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad i now have a very sore finger

Wow, sounds very rare indeed, I guess its just a fluke of nature! Smile

Yeah rats are very prone to allergies, woodshavings a definetly a no no, what have you switched to? I've heard megazorb is excellent and very cheap.

Is tartar a common problem in rats or is it just diet?

Do you think i should get evil edna and tullula checked out too? im sure it couldnt happen to all 3 sisters could it? Am still having problems with taming the girls, i know i cant expect anything over night, but ive had them for a few weeks now,and they either still run away from me,or they will take food off me but at the same time will try and bite me. I know with the girls being older than the rats ive had before will make it a bit harder too. I will keep it up and see how it goes

Just keep perservering with the handling. Food is always a good start. One good way to gain a rat's confidence is to just sit by the cage and read a book or something, with the cage door open and let them come to you. Hold your hand up to the cage once they get confident and let them walk on to you. Visit www.fancy-rats.co.uk for rat specific quesitons, it's great! Glad you've got them off the woodshavings Smile

i know i have to really keep trying, i guess the big problem at the moment is i havent spent much time with them recently. so gota spend more time with them, get that back on track. If i still get no where or am still finding i cant spend as much time with them then i will have to rehome them

Where did you get the rats from? Don't give up on them! I'm sure they will be tame with perserverance!

I actually rehomed them from a lady i work with, well she is the nurse at the care comapny i work for. She got them for her son as he really wanted rats, and they did their research etc...on them before getting them. However due to being bitten quite a few times (they were never really handled much) and the lady being allergic to them, they felt it would only be right to rehome them.
So thats when i stepped in,i am a sucker for animals
