Rabbit Chat Forum - want should i do essexanimalhouse - Sun May 04, 2008 6:49 am Post subject: want should i do
as i have a secure garden when i am out they i let my rabbits run round the garden but yestaday my rabbit thumper started humping my other rabbit patch who is a male and he also tried it on the my chickens the chickens was not having any of it and patch just ran a hid
because patch is a rescue and is still quite timid i had to put thumper in his run to stop doing this. which he did not like and started kicking his legs. so i had to put him away.
this was the first time i have had my two rabbits out at the same time. would i do better going back to letting them out one at a time or kept trying. oracle - Sun May 04, 2008 10:41 am Post subject:

Humping is normal dominance behaviour when rabbits first meet, unless they are bonded I wouldn't leave them together unattended as they could have a nasty fight. Is he neutered? That would help.
I'm not a fan of letting rabbits running around free range in gardens as birds of prey, foxes, cats and stray dogs can all kill them. Birds of prey hunt everywhere, urban and rural and can easily swoop down and pick up a rabbit, buzzards in particular. Foxes also are pretty much everywhere........

Are they neutered?
This is part of bonding too, to bond bunnies properly you should pop them in a smaller area supevised for the first day and then never seperate them. Are they both males?
Neutering also helps prevent health problems aswel as behavioural probelms especially in female buns.
