i have a question we rescued a kitten from the pound 4 months ago and she is around 6 months now. she has been spayed and we have had no problems with her untill today. she has always used her litter box without any accidents but today for some reson she peed all over the bed and it smells horrible. my first question is does anybody know why she might have done this, i heard something about cats spraying but don't know much about it. also what is the best way to get ride of the smell

Sorry but i have no idea as to why your cat has done this what i will say is that my 2 cats are grown up now and sometimes they will have the odd accident due to my own fault where i cant be bothered to get out of bed in the middle of the night and let them out Laughing

As for the smell i would wash your bedding in wash powder with a quantity of bicarbonate of soda you can also sprinkle this onto the bed and that should get rid of the smell. Smile

If cats are anything like dogs she's proberbally marking her territory. Try squarting some perfume on the bed as I know doing this worked with my dogs as they hated the smell and once it got up their noses they were off like a shot Laughing

apparently washing powder (like persil) mixed with water neutralises the odour. whatever you do don't use normal household cleaning products as they contain ammonia and therefore the cat likes the smell and it encourages them. there is also a really good product on the market called simple solution stain and odour removal...if the soap powder doesn't work. most pet stores sell it. to discourage the cat from going back to the same spot get a spray bottle of water and squirt her whenever she goes near there. it won't hurt her but she won't like it.
