Post subject: help for baby mice needed Reply with quote

I have gone and got myself into a bit of a mess my cat caught a baby mice sunday aftrenoon and my animal lover daughter managed to get it off him with the help of my son he was so tiny and shaking that i couldnt bring myself to simply putting him back so we took him in put him in a box with air holes some cotton wool and torn up kitchen roll and put him in a dark place overnight to see if the poor thing would perk up so i could release him as i have heard they can die from shock.

Well it is now tuesday night and we still have him i have brought a mice carrier and some mice food as i havent a clue what they eat and we have been getting him out and trying to get him to drink warm water diluted with water on a cotton bud and also stimulating him to go to the toilet by gently rubbing him with a warm cotton bud he does seem to have been to the toilet now as we can see droppings in his cage.

thing is now HELP what do i do i dont want to release him as he doesnt seem well enough to be released and could die even though people have told me they are vermin i cant bring myself to do it Confused
but what can i do to get him back to strength and if i do that would he be too tame to release.

Sam I think jackiew over on DW has some experience with wild mice. Go pm her she might be able to help.

I think it was her who found a baby mouse in her bird cage and hand reared it.

She wasnt too bad to be honest i was dreading telling her but i had warned her that he was really poorly and i had put a piece of kitchen roll around him and told her that he was better off up there with all his friends so she took it really well Smile

She wants to be a vet when she is older and i think she will make an excellent one as she is so caring towards all animals she even visits her nans neighbour as she has dogs, cats and farmyard animals and helps muck them out bless her.
