| I was wondering who do you identify individual puppies in a litter. They all would look very similar, so how would you tell them apart? |

Corbie's breeder used a mens hair grooming shaver and put little marks on different parts of the pups as they were born and listed them (I must add that she didn't cut much fur off, just enough to see a mark!). Corbie had 2 little shaving marks on the back of his neck so he was known as 'neck' until we chose him at four weeks old! I was curious to know how we'd be able to tell if we had the right pup .. but seems a very good idea the way she did it.
I've heard that others tie different coloured ribbons around the pups necks. ____________ My Pet Portraits

Very good idea, but i have something i would like to run past you all, a friend of mine bred her maltese's and as they are all pure white she put different colour nail varnish on the tips of their claws.
Is this safe? |

I'm not been big headed or northing and it may be because this is my frist time breeding but i can tell every single puppie apart from the rest there all so diff in there own little ways they may all have the same markings but there all so diff. Ive read on the internet that you can use nail poilsh to tell the puppies apart. As i thought id have the same problems.

I had no trouble reconising who was who from my litters, the first few days you can get them mixed up as I don't like handling them too much when there first born except to weigh them
Once those little eyes open and they start to get on all fours you realise they each have their own personalities which helps you distinguish who's who. |

| I should have been more specific, i mean idntifying them when they are really tiny, so we can identify them for recording purposes, such as weighing and monitoring general health, What is the best method for doing this? |

You can get puppy identification collars, like the ones hospitals use.
