Hi I am Jenny - I am a Veterinary Nurse and have been qualified for 10years.
I am a freelance Vet Nurse now but I used to be a locum working in many different practices.
I am able to answer any questions you have and offer advice.
However I cannot diagnose and you must never delay taking your pet to the vet under any circumstances. I will check the site as often as I can and I hope I can be some help to you pet lovers.
I have 3 cats, a rabbit, a guinea pig and a hamster.
If you need immediate advice please call Vetfone 09065 00 55 00
I work for Vetfone and if I am not on call another experienced nurse will be able to talk to you and offer advice.
Regards
Jenvetnurse. |

Thanks for the cheery welcome messages.
Are all your pets fit and well at the moment?
Remember that you really need to keep them cool at the moment.
Keep dogs out of cars and provide plenty of shade and cool drinking water. Why not offer ice cubes for your cats and dogs to lick.
Also ensure you keep a close watch on rabbits and guinea pigs - keep their hutch/run clean and dry and check their bottoms at least twice a day - any faeces/wet material around their back end will attract flies. Flies lay their eggs which hatch into maggots - the maggots literally eat into the skin - it's awful and really common this time of year.
Fly strike as it's called can also affect cats and dogs - although not so commonly.
Elderly pets are more prone to strokes in this heat so it is very important to keep a close eye on senior animals and keep them cool.
My cats are sleeping in cool places all day and out at night. I know a lot of people shut their cats in at night but to be honest it is not natural for them. As long as you are not near busy roads and they have id tags on their collars/microchips they hopefully will enjoy playing in the cool evenings.
Also watch for playful pets chasing wasps/bees - a sting in or around the mouth can be fatal.
Enjoy the sun.... |

Welcom to petchat.
It's says your 21? But you've been qualified for 10 years? Was that a mistake?
Good to have you around. ____________

Maybe admin should give you your own section "Ask the Vet Nurse" or something
It would be easier for you to just go in there instead of trawling the forum to see if advice is needed. |
