My beardy Algernon is worrying me... i've had him for many years, a kinda foster case which became adoption (as so many of my critters are)... so i'm not 100% sure how old he is.
He lost the sight in one eye about 3 years ago which affects his hunting of bugs. Recently though he sleeps all the time, has gone off food all together and even neglects to drink. At first i though it may be a phase... which he goes through at times but not for this long. He's rapidly lost excessive weight, easily seen in his tail. Nothing has changed in his environment to upset him.
I've booked him to see the vet but my local reptile specialist doesn't feel that he's at the end of his life and it would be kind to get him pulled about. What do you think? Is it best to keep offering things in the hope that he picks up or pass in peace, or take him to the vet for tests, maybe resulting in being put down?
I'm struggling with the ethics but know from experience of having an iguana with cancer that the vet route is not always the best one, for Iggy it resulted in weeks of being pulled about, tests, minor ops and finally they decided that nothing could be done and put him to sleep.
