Well girls we have a new pet actually its at my OH flat and is a pet for the kids we fetched him last night and have spent all day today fetching things for him from hollybush ie: thermostat sand rocks and crickets yuck got back to the flat and gave him a good clean out then came the task of feeding time lol my Oh refused to do it and my daughter was horrified so guess who got the task yes me as told by the reptile woman i added a pinch of calcium powder into a bag and then shoved the plastic container with about 50 jumping crickets opened it whilst trying to make sure only 4 were actually in the bag and then closed the lid where i squashed 2 then shook them all up to coat them in the powder then we threw them into the tank.
Quite fascinating to watch him run across the tank to grab them with his tongue and chomp em all up 2 of them did try and play dead but as soon as spikey saw there legs move they were dinner too.
I'm off to help feed him again tomorrow as we have a friend who has one and they are going to show us an easier way to feed him so i'll get the camera out and take some pics for you.
Anne in an earlier thread you mentioned a friend who owns them could you ask her to join so i can ask her a few questions or if its easier i'll pm you so you can ask her for me please. ____________

Thanks Anne right to start off with he has ate the crickets no problem but his veg (carrot and parsnip) grated he hasnt touched although he has ate a dandelion leaf today we have got him some mutivitamins and calcium powder but want to make sure he has an ample diet i have been told that we can spray him with water as they like to drink this way and it also cools him down is this true and how often should we be doing it.
The woman at hollybush told us yesterday that he has to eat crickets and nothing else such as mealworms but looking at other reptile forums people are giving there dragons a diet of mealworms and veg is this okay for them.
Sorry for all the questions Anne but my moto is you can never have enough info lol
I was dreaming of bloody crickets last night or shall i say having nightmares about them lol if your mate feeds her dragon crickets has she got any tips as to do it easier than what i tried. ____________

we used to sell llive food at the pet shop sam...and needless to say we had a couple of escapee incidents. we had to spend hours searching for the little critters. thankfully we kept them in the office so they were realtively contained. ____________

My friend only feeds her's crickets a couple of times a week and the other days he has veggies. She said if she feeds him live feed every day he won't touch his greens Maybe he's full up on his crickets
Also she sprays her's down a couple of times a week and when its hot she gets him out and puts him in the dog cage in the sun and he loves it. She made him a harness out of a cat harness and he crawls on her head to bask! |

Thanks Michelle i have to say i'm warming to him now and he is a sweetie my daughter has named him spikey
Thanks for the info Anne think we will give him veggies for 2 days then crickets on the 3rd day we had a lad come yesterday and feed him 5 crickets he was so brave and just took them out by hand but then we gave him some veggies aswell and he loved them.
We let him out for a little run and we couldnt believe how fast the little man was it was funny to watch.
Had my Oh on the phone last night though panicking as the little man was resting under his lamp and was very still and my oh was worrying that his thermostat was set either too high or too low i reassured him by saying he was probably just basking but could you ask your friend Anne what temp she has hers set on at the moment spikey's is set at 82. ____________
