Post subject: Demodectic Mange Reply with quote

[B] Hello im very new to forums but im in desprate need of advice... and feel im banging my head against the wall. my sister has recently bought a puppy. The puppy was seen before she bought her and was told the rash on her skin was an allergy to her mother milk !!!!!!!! So she bought all the lovely things u get when your ready to bring your new joy home.. So my sis receives the call she had been waiting for "The pup is ready to collect so lets fix a date" so they did, the next words were the milk spots got a little worse so we took her to the vets and they have put her on "SYNULOX" to cure it but the fur on her face has gone due to the drugs!!!!! With me being a dog owner for many a year i felt a bit worrid about this poor puppys condition, i got my sis to book her pup in for a check and the result came back as suspect Demodectic Mange. the poor little things face was hair less and was beginnig to get worse (in her ears and body)we argued with the vet that had so called diagnosed the condition of an allegy to mothers milk and asked for the treatment they where giving the pups and they told my sis that they could not release info for data protection reasons, so the breeder knew? or they were mis diagnosed the question cant be answered my only concern is this little life, anyway the breeder has taken her back to get her healthy but with a broken hearted sister i find it hard to believe that they didnt know already bearing in mind the little pup is a x breed.......... well to cut a long story short because i could carry on with th BS we have been fed if a puppy is diagnosed with Demodectic Mange is there any life long therts and treatment required?

Hi There.

Demodex is not life threatening - it is very easy to diagnose (with a skin scraping and evidence of a few mites) it is very easy to treat.

A series of baths in special washes will kill the mites and in time the hair will grow back.

It is actually good that it is Demodex and not something more serious,

Do not stress - get the washes done and all will be well.

Regards

jenvetnurse.
