| Post subject: Ridiculous over-eating cat! |
 |
|
Hi
My cat has always been a bit chubby so we weigh each of his meals to make sure he doesnt get any bigger - hes about 12 lbs and is a tom cat so not an unusual size for a tom.
Im just after advice as he is ALWAYS hungry and will now eat ANYTHING. Its ridiculous, we're actually wondering if theres something wrong with him, like maybe he has no taste buds??!
Here are some examples - i cooked a chocolate cake and iced it and left it out in the kitchen, i left in for 10 mins and when i went in he was up on the side eating and had had a big chunk..
I bought some wedding cake back from a friends wedding and left the thick white icing as i dont like it - my cat ate the lot!!! I thought cats didnt like sweet things?
He will happliy eat hot and spicy curry and chilli
but last night is what got me seeking advice... id eaten a mango and had left the skin in a bowl on the floor. HE ATE THE SKIN! Mango skin for gods sake! What is wrong with him?!
He is otherwise a very happy chilled out cat, he will eat anything and its such a pain as i cant leave anything uncovered else he eats it.
Any advice would be welcomed! |

hi
I would advise worming your puss.
Also get him to a weight clinic ran by a vet nurse at your practice - she will weigh him accurately and tell you how much he needs to lose and advise an appropriate diet/exercise regime to suit him.

some cats are just naturally greedy. we had a tom just like this (not mango skin though) and although we didn't give anything else he had about two or three other houses where he used to go and seek food. some cats are difficult to keep an eye on, my only suggestion would be to monitor it and reduce his food accordingly. ____________

My male cat is the same although not mango skin he is rather partial to cheese and onion crisps and will often swipe your dinner off your fork and will easily continue to eat if i keep filling his bowl. ____________

I had one male cat that was the same...He would even eat pickled beetroot....very odd!!!
Also 12lbs doesn't seem overly large for a tom. My Monty is 21lbs and is a perfect weight for his huge size according to my vet . He is a MagnifiCat though .
