After being captivated by "Spottydog" on the Woodentops (Watch with Mother, BBC 1960) I wanted a Dalmatian but it was 35 YEARS before I had my first - can anyone beat that?

i havnt ever waited long for an animal as im very impatient(and draining on partners wallet lol) but have learnt by experience sometimes to wait is best.I always wanted a parrot and started saving the one i wanted was between 5 and 6 hundred i got to 200 and found some baby parrots in a local paper nearby, thinking it was a misprint i phoned and went to meet the owners.Sure enough he had baby greys all very noisy this should have warned me to stay away but i realy wanted a parrot and wanted it like yesterday not today.Anyway to cut a long story short i was sold a wild import that i would never tame i tried believe me,i had him for 8 mths he cost me 400 pounds in vet bills and in the end could not be saved and i had to have him put down,i was mortified,If i had waited i would have been able to buy a 14wk old baby who was handtamed with all the money i spent on him.Dont get me wrong i dont regret having fred i loved him and still miss him although i have my hand tamed one now but for him to suffer like that was horrendous, its gullible and impatient people like me that keep the illegal wild bird trading going.I now am busy saving for a macaw which will cost me double than my grey but i wont be fooled in2 buying a cheap bird this time

I always wanted a pet dog that I could sleep with inside at night and that would play with me. After waiting 12 years, I finally got Jacques. I still love my big working guys though.

As a kid I always wanted a "fluffy kitty" (I didn't know they were called persians) and when I moved out of home and rented my first flat about 10 years ago, guess what I found as stray on the side of the road....? A beautiful shaded cameo persian!! We had had a huge storm a couple of weeks before and a tree had fallen on top of the fence at the top of my road and I had seen this cat run in and out of the hole in the fence. Then one day lying on the pavement was this poor cat - I thought she was dead - she was nothing but skin and bone and her fur was so matted that it was as hard as a rock!! I took her off to the vet and after a few days of recovery she came home to live with me! I called her Phoebe (I posted a pic of her in cat photos a while ago) - she's the one that started my love affair with cats. Devastatingly she got run over a few years later but I'm just glad that I was able to offer her the best life she could have for the remainder of her time with us! So, let me see, that must have been about 13 years that I had waited for my fluffy kitty!

I'm the worlds most impatient person but when I was five I decided I wanted a dog but my mum went on and on about responsibility and that I had to wait until I was twelve. At seven I was still going on and my mum said I could get a cat but not a dog, but if I got the cat then that I wouldnt ever get a dog (as long as I lived with her anyway). Well I gave in very easily and got Poppy and Belle, Belle died at six years old but I still have my nine year old Poppy, in fact shes sitting in the room as I type. I still want a dog but I have my impatience to thank for the best cat in the world, I couldn't imagine a better companion than Poppy

I always wanted a dog but was never allowed to have one, so 2 years after moving out I got one at the age of 25!

I don't think I can beat anyone on waiting - we've never rushed into a purchase of a pet in my parents house but it's never been difficult to persuade my mum that something is a good idea...she is as loopy on dogs as I am! lol!

Look out for dog number two in June...heh heh! Very Happy

Over the years i have had rats, guniea pigs, budgies, cockatiel, cats,a dog, rabbits and hamsters. However I have always wanted an african grey parrot or a cockatoo, but after wanting to move out of my parents at the age of 20 i realised i couldnt live on my own and save up for a parrot. So since moving out have settled for having rats, and after 6 months of living with my fiance we rehomed our jack russel. Shortly after buying our house 18 months ago i managed to convince him to rehome another dog and we got our labrador X. The dog i will always always want is a staffordshire bull terrier.
I know they arent everyones sorta dog,but one day i will have one even if i have to pay 400 to get one from a private breeder.
I do love our dogs that we have at the moment too, they are my babies
aswell as linford
