hello all!
i at the mo iam in college full time studying to be a sign language interpreter i am doing my advance skills then after that i have to go and find work in the deaf community for 2 yrs untill i can get in to a college in bristol (i live in north wales by the way!) so its far away then i do a very intense couse then only after that will i be a basic interpreter!
but there is 1 problem i want to work with animals like i always have done! when i was 16 i joined college and did my first diploma in animal care untill i was 18 i coudnt get onto the next year as i you have to get a certian amount of points and i was 2points down as i missed alot of college when my aunt died so i went and did sign language and did about 3/4 years of work in just 1 year!!!
i havnt been happy in college for the last couple of months it doesnt help when i one of the tutor bullies me.so a few weeks ago i looked around for animal care jobs i applied at loads of places but most places dont take staff on at this time of year so i just thought that im going to be carrying on doing sign language but this morning a lady rang me up about a kennel managers job a few miles away from me so i have an interview tomorrow at 11!
im sooo nervous i cant screw it up as i will have to go back to college if i do.
can you all PLEASE give me some good interview tips so i can get the job and be happy ever after!
thanks
heather
p.s sorry the post is soooooooooo long i blabed on a bit, note to self i will NOT blab on at the interview! ____________ My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am!

I remember being in your position a few years ago when i had an interview for Pedigree working with dogs and cats.I was so so nervous and i really didnt want to get it wrong.I went in the room and was just myself, naturally i am quite nervous but because we were talking about why i wanted to work with animals and if i could handle them etc it just all fell into place.
I believe that if you genuinely want to work with animals they will pick this up and you will be fine, just tell them what you have to offer and of your genuine understanding and love for dogs then i am sure you will be fine.I did get the job and i loved every minute of it only leaving to have my daughter.
Wishing you loads of luck, please let us know how you get on |

Even though it's Kennel work you still want to create a good impression so i would still dress smartly.
Perhaps some smart black trousers and a nice top or something. |

it went ok i think when i went in the girl in the reception is a girl that lives in my street and i went to college with a few years ago!
the boss lady said she will let me know in a few days she didnt say anything negative about me,she went through my cv with me and said it is for sure that have enough experience with animals and she also said that it would be usful if i was there as im so good at dog training!
she said that she had seen me and kia at shows and competitions before,
so im hoping that i have it (hopefully) but she did say that she had interviewed about 20 people so far and still had more to interview after me so im bit worried i might not get it
cross your fingers for me tho ____________ My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am!

Hi,
I am a great believer in "if it's meant for you, you'll get it" it doesn't matter how many others are up for it, if you are the best one for it you will get it. I have been to loads of interviews and also taken on people myself, it's quite complicated how you choose someone, often there will be several who look the same "on paper" so it comes down to who will fit best. If that isn't you, you wouldn't be happy there anyway IMO!
I have been offered a job simply because the person I would be sharing an office with felt we would get on (which we did) equally I have not been made an offer for some other reason unconnected with my ability - as 3 of us had the same pretty well - but it came down to personality in the end. Don't take it too personally if you don't get it - I know that sounds stuopid as it really is personal - but hang on to the thought that there is something else out there which will come your way which will be even better.
Good luck and let us know what happens..... ____________ Pretty Polly Pavey of Polidot - 06/08/1996 - 13/07/2006 - Dalspa Liquid Gold for Polidot 20/10/1999 - 08/05/2007 - Polly and Polo together again |
