Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if you insure your pets and if you think it's worth it.Mine are all insured but i am just thinking if i can justify the £25 a month it costs me.I suppose you have peace of mind if,god forbid, they fall ill or have to have on going treatment etc.The chance of having to claim on the insurance is very high though i don't think.Would be interesting to hear your views |

Mine are insured with Argos, comes to under £30 a month for all 3. After a vets bill for over £1700 for Harvey I've had my money's worth already |

I have all mine insured by Direct Line and Petplan
The dogs are under Directline, I have often thought about cancelling as my vet is so cheap (£30 for consult and 100ml Metacam) so often never spend enough to claim.
However my friend who's pup (now at the bridge) has ED and OCD + complications spent over £8,500 in the first year of having him, so its the chance you take ____________ Natalie and Co xxx

Depends on the insurance policy, my friend was covered for only £4500 or vets bills per year, but some are per injury per year ____________ Natalie and Co xxx

I have both of my dogs insured with the Halifax. I was with E&L Insurance, but they were absolutely rubbish.
I made a claim in Sept, my first one. The bill was for £103 and i had to pay the first £69 excess, so i was barely claiming anything. I finally got my cheque on Saturday - 3 months later.
I dread to think how i could of coped if i needed them to settle a large bill, so i swopped companies PLUS i save about £10 a month. |

Charlie is insured although no longer for his ears (which are his only problem). I toyed with the idea of not insuring him and just putting money into an account for him just in case... but insurance covers for lots of additional things so i decided better to be safe |

I no longer insure mine. I think it's a complete rip off (as most insurance is - and I work for an insurance company) and encourages vets to be greedy. I am astonished at the unnecessary "treatment" and associated fees that vets in the UK charge, apparently.
Vets in Ireland are a fraction of the cost and are more likely than not to send you off to the local pharmacy for a cheap alternative to "veterinary medicine". I have had some minor treatments free of charge. When I first moved here, I commented on how cheap it was, and the vet said it was because most people in Ireland are not insured, so the vets charge a fair price. He said it was because "most pet owners in England" have insurance that the vets there charge what they like. It's a vicious circle.
If I get concerned about meeting an unexpected cost, I will put an amount roughly equal to the premiums into a savings account every month then if I don't need it, I can spend it on something else.
Insurance money is dead money IMO. ____________ Pretty Polly Pavey of Polidot - 06/08/1996 - 13/07/2006 - Dalspa Liquid Gold for Polidot 20/10/1999 - 08/05/2007 - Polly and Polo together again |

I insured Kippa at 8 weeks old. That was a good move. She has had arthiritis since she was 2 - now 9- and we are very frequent visitors to the vets.
Petplan are great and we claim a twice a year. ____________ Joo, Kippa & Stan x
