What foul weather we are having today, even by Irish standards!
At least it is getting warmer. Always difficult walking Polo and Polly in severe weather, Polo wants to go 5 miles and Polly doesn't want to go at all
A friend of mine has just returned to France from a month in the UK and informed me gleefully this morning that it is 31 degrees where he is (near Pau) and he is in his shorts
You can go off people
At least I got the front lawn cut recently. The back will have to wait.

Been raining here all day too.
Took Corbie out in the car, just a short trip to the post box as I had put him on the back seat for the first time in his harness and wanted to see how he'd react (he had a few whinges but seemed ok). I got soaked just taking him to the car, which is only parked outside the front door!
As long as next weekend is nice as my parents are coming up for a visit as its my birthday, so can't wait to see them. ____________ My Pet Portraits

Don't wanna boast too much here, but at the moment its 28 degrees, bright and sunny and the official start of our Winter is two days away! The coldest it ever gets here in Durban in Winter during the day is probably about 18 degrees - but that's really cold for us. At night the coldest would probably be around 12 degrees. But in other parts like Johannesburg and Cape Town it gets quite a lot colder - like maybe 10 during the day and -5 at night. Everyone in South Africa envies our tropical-like Durban weather but the humidity in Summer is a killer!!! The one thing I know that I'm going to battle to get used to in London is the weather - I'm really worried about it!
Oh well, let me go and take my lunch break now and gaze at the lovely bright blue seaview from my office window and watch the ships go by.....sigh!

To be honest if it was up to me I would probably never do it. But my long term boyfriend (we've been together for 7 years) has always wanted to go and "seek his fortune" there. I was totally opposed to the idea in the beginning as I'm very settled here and have to give up a lot in order to do it. It's become common-place for young South Africans in their early twenties to do a bit of travelling using London as a base before settling down but I honestly feel that I'm a bit old for it (am nearly 30) and am far too set in my ways! Our plan is to go for four years (he has a UK ancestral Visa) and make as much money as we can in London and then come back and buy a house and set up our own business. When you convert pounds to rands this makes sense - we would probably be able to buy a house cash instead of taking out a bond. Although I would rather stay here I think that in a way it'll do me good - I feel like I'm living in a fish bowl and am interested to experience another way of life and see a bit of Europe as well. It's not in my nature to be so adventurous but I think that's exactly the reason why I have to do this - to break out of the box!!!

He's got a degree in finance and will probably be able to get a job at Deutche Bank as a something or other Securities Analayst (not sure of the exact description - I know nothing about finance) and work his way up from there. I'm a Marketing Co-ordinator with a PA background for Grant Thornton (Chartered Accountants) who are an international company (you may have heard of them) and am hoping to get a transfer to the London office in Euston Square, otherwise I'll just do some secretarial work till I find something suitable. A lot of our guys go to London as qualified Chartered Accountants after finishing their articles with us and make an absolute fortune - Carl isn't a CA but I'm sure he can get something fairly well paid in the finance sector. I must say that I am terrified that things won't work out ........but it's pretty much a gamble I guess - I just don't want to look back on my life and regret never having tried. What do you think??? Are we being way too optimistic here? |

No not at all catmad, life is to short and you must live it to the full ,we all look back and wish we had done thing we never did, if you have the k knowlage and the confidance just do it, you have nothing to loose, im sure if it doesnt work out you will always have a job back home, but in the mean time go for it ,your both young so you have a lifetime ahead of you both.
What ever you decide i with you both good luck. |

Thanks guys. The funny thing is though I'm actually not that comfortable going ahead with it cos it's just not me (all this adventure and stuff) but like i said that's kind of why I'm doing it - testing myself - maybe I am an adventurer and I never knew it!!?? Boy, am I wild or what!!!??? |

We're all freezing today - it's only 17C, and last night was 9C! My nose is like a popsicle! If I can't handle this how am I going to cope in England next year??? Gonna have to start practising and toughening up a bit - start taking ice cold baths and wearing short sleeves when I go out!! LOL |
