| Post subject: DDB X Rottie - needs rescue space or VERY experienced home |
 |
|
Right. I went to see a dog yesterday that needs rehoming....
He is very big - at least as big as my male dogue de bordeaux.
He is deep red with black around the eyes and has a docked tail. Because of the tail I feel he must be a rottweiller - either crossed with a bullmastiff or DDB. I think he is only around 2 years old maybe younger. He is a truly wonderful looking boy...but now we get to the 'issues'
He can be aggressive with other dogs and bitches if they are too playful/boisterous
He is food aggressive
He mouths!
and of course due to his size he is very very strong.
As soon as I got through the front door - he jumped on me and was mouthing my arm. I kept pushing him away and he kept trying until I pushed him roughly to the floor saying 'no' loudly - then he laid down for a tummy rub (so i think there is hope for him with the correct training and time)
The situation is that he lives with a 17 year old and his mum. The lad brought the dog home from another home 'who could not handle him'. The lad wanted to keep him as a 'guard dog' but mum has put her foot down and wants him out asap.
He has quite a nasty 'scold' on his back which the lad claimed happened 3 weeks ago when he dropped the kettle on him!!!!!
I have already asked a number of rescues but none have the space for this poor lad. Even Battersea wont take him as they said due to his size and food agression they would pts ,k
I am worried that if this dog is not found a rescue space then he will be rehomed privately - as you can imagine - this is likely to end up badly - He needs specialist training and certainly castrating before he should be homed again - failing this then although it saddens me to say it - he should be handed over to the local dog warden and be pts (but again who knows it the owner will do the right thing!) ,k
I so wish I had a kennel or even just enough room or a better laid out home then I could have brought him home with me.
If anyone knows of a rescue who would be able to take him and work with him please let me know - please feel free to cross post this.
(Minty is living in South Wales at present)
UPDATE: Today 24th jan...
OK, I have been back and spent time with this georgous dog. When I went there yesterday I only saw the son and it is clear now that he was exagerating the problems (obviously because he does not want the dog to go)
I could see that the woman had NO control and allowed Minty to do as he pleases (constantly mouthing her hand)
Within 10 minutes I more or less had him under control - he stopped jumping up and stopped mouthing as soon as he knew I was not going to let him do it!
I also took him out on the lead - yes he pulls - but when I put his choker up around his neck he started to walk fine...then I loosened the lead and he pulled - I spent 5 mins just changing directions (he objected to start with) and then was fine (Mick from Dog borstal would have been proud )
Basically this oversize pup is as smart as a button and very keen to learn!!!!
Here are some photos....... as you can see - deff some DDB in there!

Yes definately ddb cross rottie (the shaded red can be a give away for carrying the black and tan gene!) Hope he's sorted soon.

he is on the refuge...unfortunately dogpages chose to ban me some time back because I got into a 'heated debate' with someone on there who decided to post my name around as being a puppy farmer!!!! all because i decided to 'personally' take on a 'freead' cross breed in whelp without the support of my usual rescues anyway thats another story
I had another call back from one rescue who knocked me back - they are reconsidering - fingers crossed xxx |

I know DP's can get quite funny at times, well refuge is a better palce anyway.
Unfortunately, the Rotties and X's as sell as the Bull Breeds are all being affected by lack of rescue spaces due to the negative publicity in the press.
I am in touch with a few rescues I will put feelers out for you ____________ Natalie and Co xxx

He is absolutely gorgeous and if i had more time more room and no cats etc i would have snapped him up is there no way you could foster him for a while saph as it sounds like he needs to be removed from that home asap before more bad behaviour sets in.
My boyfriends uncle has just paid over 1000 pound for a dbd who is now 5 months old and is gorg.
He is taking him to puppy classes and is hoping to show him. ____________

if my home was laid out better I would try and fit him in here - but with 1 male ddb and a female bullmastiff (who is just coming into season) I just wont risk another male in the home not with his current issues |

just to update - Rain Rescue offered to take in this boy so I collected him (had him here with me for a couple of days) and drove him from South wales to Rochdale (all on the day of the snow storm - god what a nightmare that was - thank god for four wheel drive lol)
He was renamed to Samson and has now found a loving home with a couple with similar breed experience
He is on their 'rehomed' page Rain Rescue |
