Hello! what a beauty! has your Marge got her skirting yet?
anyway, littlelab look at nessie which is a Marginate tortoise (testudo marginated) and then look at mine which is 2 hermann tortoises (testudo hermanni)
Jerry:
Looi:
Now then the difference is a Marginated will have a large like frill on the end of there shells when fully grown.
Where as hermanns do not.
Marginated will also be dark colorations or just tanned.
Hermanns have 3 sets of coloration and markings.
Marginated are harder to sex than hermanns
then say you put a sulcata up to Nessie and my 2 hermanns, the differences are..
Sulcata grow to 2-3 foot long
Marginated grow up to like either 8-12 inches cant remember really
Hermanns onyl grow up to 6-8 inches MAX
Sulcatas are very hard to sex
Marginated are better at sexing
Hermanns are MUCH MUCH more easier to sex
Sulcatas need a dry environment, and grass diet
MArginated can eat various fruit/veggies and mostly weed diets
Hermanns can only eat greens and weed diets
Sulcatas need a 12 foot by 10 foot garden to itself!
Marginated only need 8foot by 6 foot enclosure
hermanns only need 6 foot by 4 foot enclosure.
Sulcatas are either dark brown or tanned brown....and there shell at the ends often look like spikes..and sulcatas are easily made angry and ramm fences down.
Marginated have a frilly skirt like end of shell (back end)
Hermanns have basic rounded shell.
Theres more to it...just gotta research |

Yea you seem to be doing good with her, Nessie is so beautiful! and i bet she'll look adorable when she gets her skirt!
Littelab, your welcome, like we say theres SOOO many species of tortoises its unbelievable! (it is but you know ), and you just gotta view images of different sorts and stuff. But always look at plastrons aswell...cuz with those you can ID (identify) a tortoise so easy.
Like the different between a testudo hermanni.B and a tesudo hermanni.H is that the plastrons are different, the Hermanni.H has 2 like curved strips f black on there bottom shell where as the hermanni.B has black sectioned on the bottom.
Sounds confusin but once you get stuck in there, you'd understand it all.
Madbirdie, sounds great giant tortoises, but which giant are you saying about... Galapagos tortoises or the next in line for giant tortoise which is Aldabara tortoises. Now dont forget aldabras are similar colored to Galapagos, and also if you got a garden that darling tortoise would need the whole lot alone! then you gotta hose down that bigggg shell!
THATS when there big during hatchling just build like a 8 foot by 6 foot enclosure lol...youd be suprised at what a hatchling of a alrge tortoise would need.
ANYWAY shutting up! |

Lol ill say it again:p
i have herd of S-W, but i didnt get on well with it, because noone listened to me, all i was tryna say was i need time to get things sorted with their enclosure and ect... and they wouldnt take it.
If you ask about me in the chat room, no doubt you'll hear all bad things about me... but im not bothered who thinks what of me, aslong as i know the truth and so on...im cool
My name on there was Cpx_20o5...... you can ask em about me feel free i dont mind! but it will no doubt be bad...when half of it isnt true.
if they mention abusive emails to Sarah then thats truely wrong...all i said was God damn, and bloody! nowt drastic |
