my retriever x saluki reubin has been diagnosed with cancer , he has a large growth on his back leg , and another growth growing underneath it . the vet said its not good and doesnt give him a long life span . he also has a cough that is worse in the evenings for which the vet prescribed him steroids , but tonight he has brought up all his tea , does anyone know if this is a side effect of the tablets ? or to do with the cancer ?

I am so sorry to hear about your boy.

It could be a side effect of the tablets, sometimes steroids can make them sick. I would speak to your vet in the morning the worry being dehydration more than anything.

(((((((HUGS)))))) to you both

So sorry about Reubin, I would phone the vet about him being sick.

You must enjoy the time that Reubin has left and do all the things that he really enjoys, make the most of every day!

Take care
Angie

reubin is doin ok today thanks , he stopped being sick and hasnt been sick today . i didnt give him his tablets this morning , the vet said its not usually a side effect but to leave him off them for a day or two and try him again , if hes sick again he cant take the tablets . to look at him you wouldnt think theres anything wrong with him besides the fact that he sleeps alot , but that could also be his age hes 13 . he still runs around on walks and has mad five minutes . thankyou to everyone who has left such nice messages on here , its very warming to know people care enough to take the time to do so . #Olympic

I am glad to hear that he has been ok today. It it so worrying when a pet is ill, you feel so helpless.
Here is hoping that he will be ok on the tablets. flower

reus had quite a lively day today , being a nutter out on his walk , just one question if anyone knows , do dogs dig when they are in pain ? i know bitches dig when they are in labour and its meant to be a sign of pain , but does that apply to all ? because reu does dig at the carpet alot , really digging hard like hes trying to get to australia ! and its not to get comfortable . so i wondered if that means hes in pain .

Thats good,

I cant help you with that but i had a thought dunno if its true but if a dog is ill and their digging, maybe it could be that they consentrate on it that they forget the pain isnt there

Good question, I have to say I don't have an answer to that one, I do find that when Maia gets stressed she digs at our hands to get our attention.

It could be stress related behaviour, when did the digging start? Can you pin point it?

He has always dug at the floor to an extent , but not like he is now , before it was to get comfy , but the way hes digging now is like my bitch did when she was in labour . last night he was already comfy but then got up and started digging like mad , i had to stop him it was that bad , thought he was going to wear a whole in the carpet .
