Post subject: blood when going to the toilet Reply with quote

Hi, i just bought a new dog last night (border terrier x king charles)
last night he was great, using the newspaper to do his business.
However once woken up he forgot that and did it on our rug and then mat. When cleaning this up i spotted that there was blood in with the poo. And again when he went a few minutes ago there was blood. Only small bit, but still enough to worry.

the breeder said that he'd had his injections up to date (needs the last in about 2 weeks) she also said he'd be dewormed and flea'd. However he rubs his bum on the floor, my mum says this is a sign of worms, but right after he has a poo, do you think he does this to tell us he needs to go, or do u think theres something wrong?

thanks for any and all help!

I'd get him checked by the vet. It could be that he hasn't been wormed sufficiently. Also take a sample of his poo to the vet as well so they can see first hand. It could be that he's just a little stressed at being in his new home so try and keep as calm as possible, but it is always advisable to take a new dog to be checkd over by your vet asap.

I agree with Becky

Pop along to your vet for a full check up is always advisable for any new pup or dog owner.

Often bloody mucus in the stool is a sigh of stress, but it can also be worms or an infection.

Better to err on the side of caution with young pups Wink

Let us know how he is, and welcome to the forums by the way
