hi peeps i have just been offered a pig for free and was wondering whether i should take it as a pet????? i mean it is so cute and the person offering me it said it wont grow bigger then a west highland terrier, but personally i think it would be cruel to deprive it of a farm life.. i have been thinking about it for ages now and would love to here your views thanks... it is a boar and i think the owner of it, is stopping breeding them. ____________ Jet,Copper,Sasha,Scooby,Binky,Blade,Button,

Aww, I love pigs, they are very intelligent (apparently more so than dogs) BUT I'd never get one as a pet. Alot of people have been given/sold pigs that they are told will be small but grow into enormous pot bellied pigs and end up in rescue or worse!
I'm no pig expert but a friend who is a farmer keeps medium sized ones in a large straw filled pen in a barn.
I suppose if you live on a farm, have the right facilities (and bank balance ), have done all the research, and have insisted on seeing both parents of the piglet (with proof of parentage) to confirm that it really is what they say it is, maybe it would work. Also remember that boars of puberty and older can be VERY aggressive.

i sort of know, they eat a grain mash, (a combination of oats, corn, and barley mixed with water and milk.) they also eat slops which is a combination of all kinds of vegatables, and kitchen scraps. and of course they eat grass. and anything else they get there snouts into lol ____________ Jet,Copper,Sasha,Scooby,Binky,Blade,Button,

what breed is it? I wouldn't keep any pig as a 'pet', especially not a boar! They do need to be outside, and I would be VERY cynical of it being THAT small....if it really was that small, he could sell it for quite a lot.

with your replys i have decided not to get the pig as it would be quite hard work and i havent really got the facillities so i emailed the owner of it and he said he will find it a home in a farm or somebody who has the facillities i asked him why it was free aswell which put me off as he said its quite rowdy and he cant touch as it goes for him so no im not getting it, its a kune kune, i thought this breed was a nice breed and could be kept as a pet?? i have enclosed a pic of a kune kune for you though its not the one i was offered.. ____________ Jet,Copper,Sasha,Scooby,Binky,Blade,Button,

Very cute but I have to say I think you've made the right decision. If you want something like a pig get a Labrador, they share a few habits ____________ Georgia, Honey Bear, Rosie, Obi, Timber, Mia, Oscar and Mango XXXX

Funny, I thought it might be a Kune Kune and they are deffo one pig you can't keep in the house, they do much better in orchards as they are vegetarian pigs and many keep them in apple orchards so as they can eat the fallen, rotting apples, and also like to wallow to keep their skin healthy, so you'd need a mud pit in your garden.
