I just wondered how many of you owned rehomed pets?
Our 2 dogs are both rehomed. Poppy i had off someone i used to work with, and she was very well treated by him. However was told he had heard she had been mistreated in the past (poor thing). And doodles we got from a rehoming/boarding kennels not far from where i work. We had a hard time with him at first, but now i love him so much.Someone phil (my other half) knows thru a car forum was possibly rehoming his dog,a deaf jack russel. But we havent heard whether he still wants to rehome him,so wont be getting him now.
However we are always on hand to offer a good home to any animal that needs rehoming. So if any of you out there come across an animal you know needs rehoming,if poss we will take it in XXX |

| We got Boo from a rescue kennels. She was ill treated and not socialised properly. It has been hard work but very rewarding. She will never be the "perfect dog" but we love her to bits and would be lost without her. I would always rehome a pet now as there are so many needing a safe & loving home. |

| I know when we went to get doodles from the rehoming centre there were a couple of other dogs i would have gladly taken home one of them being a staffy. But was advised with staffies you either have to rehome them on their own or with another staffy. It was a shame coz she was ssssssssooooooooooooooooo lovely |

It's getting more and more harder to rehome an animal especially with the rspca. There was recently a few letters in my local paper about families trying to adopt dogs, cats and rabbits they could give them all the love care and attention they neede but still didn't meet the strict criteria,it put's me of because i live in a flat right next to a park and i know for a fact that because i have no garden i wouldn't get a dog,i have been turned down many years ago because i had wonky fencing that i told them would be fixed and would have them down to prove it!! still no go.
I mean just becaus ei have no garden doesn't in no way mean i won't take care of the dog better than someone with a garden, ihave many years experiance with dogs and could have offered a 5* home i just think that they should think ok maybe the dog will go out for walks more because i have no option thus it will get plenty of exercise and socialisation meaning a healthier happier dog than just being chucked out for 5 mins 5 times a day every day till it's driven to boredom!!!!!
And one of the stupid reasons the rspca didn't let one family have a rabbit is because their dog was an unneutered male, the rspca's reason it was just good management to neuter him,i got to thinking what did they think was going to happen .... the dog would mate with the rabbit??? i just think it's madness.
My favourite breed is border collies i love what the border collies trust of gb does and want to re-home one of their dogs but i fear i will fail the homecheck due to my flat even though i am at home all day and spend all my time devoting to my animals(more than my other half lol)and my flat is big and spacious and spotless enviroment for my babies. So i am guessing if i want a collie i will have to find a pound or go private |

I agree with you Lybica, all the rules and regulations are ridiculous, of course they have to make sure the animals go to good homes but they should take each case as individual. I live in a flat too (although I do have a garden) and I probably wouldn't have been able to home Honey from a shelter because of this.
I got her when she was 4 years old, her owner had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy and Honey had a big abcess under her ear, so the owner couldn't be around her obviously. She was meant to stay at the vets where I work for 2 weeks until she was better, but she was really stressed and baking the place down, so I offered to take her home for that time. To cut a long story short, the owner knew he wasn't going to make it so asked if i'd like to keep her. Obviously I jumped at the chance, and she's been with me for over 5 years. I don't think she's any the worse off for living in a flat, actually it's good because she hates going up stairs! ____________ Georgia, Honey Bear, Rosie, Obi, Timber, Mia, Oscar and Mango XXXX

When we first started looking around for another dog to rehome,we went to woodgreen animal shelter near godmanchester. Thats where the family dog came from. There was a boarder colli we had our hearts set on,but couldnt have him due to how long my shifts were and phil at the time was on shifts. But the dog would never have been left alone longer than 4 hrs. Which i know seems a long time to some people,so i can see their point.
I only came across the place where we got doddles from by hunting around on the net,and they dont check you at all.
The animals they get are kept for 7 days. If the owners come in that time, they go home (obviously) but if the owners dont come then they go up for adoption. They dont do any checks,so you can go in,if the dog you want can be rehomed you give a donation of 65 for a xbreed and 75 or 80 for a pure breed. The people that run it are very nice and when you go there they do ask you some questions about your experience, but thats it. If i could id go bk there again i would and get another doggy |

Our dog came from a breeder as at the time my handicapped brother was very young and my parents thought it would be 'safer' to get from a good breeder. I love Hannah to pieces and have no regrets in getting her, but would have loved to have rescued as originally we were going to rescue one of those dogs on 'death row' who had only a few days before being pts.
My gran rescued two cats though, and I have promised myself that I will NEVER buy from a breeder or shop again. I cringe to think that I ever bought small animals from shops, i am 100% against selling pets in shops, and as for breeding.. am against 99.9% of breeders, there are too many bad breeders and just not enough reputable ones.
As for the RSPCA....don't start me! Full on rant there! They are awful because they operate on laws made 100 years ago, and hence so many animals suffer. The story of the rabbit and unneutered dog is ridiculous. Bunny and cavy rescues are probably better on average than the RSPCA who really seem to lack proper knowledge on bunnies, and even put many to sleep if they have teeth troubles. The seperate branches are run slightly differently I think, so in the case of rabbits, some neuter and vaccinate others don't. |

here here Twig i am not keen on the RSPCA neither, i think as animal charities go i would always support the PDSA first as i think they are miracle workers and have always sold raffles for them and gave donations, many times in the past they have helped my mum's cats/dogs and mine.
People are realising their is big money to be made in breeding and they don't do it correctly(just as quick as poss to make some easy cash)my mum has bred show persians for years and her kittens are wonderful and healthy and always go to the correct home for their temperament but they are not sold as pet's really mostly as show cat's to a demand that is high for show animals.
Tha rspca has been to many a show persons home(this we learned from chatting to poor breeders who were targets of backstabbing friends who were trying to get rid of the competition)they sit there and criticise the breeder(in many cases who has been doing it for 20 odd years)like they know it all and i am sorry but they don't how can their experience compare to a champion breeder who's cats have a luxury lifestyle indeed the show cat's health is 200% it has to be they are spotless well fed and well loved they are vetted at every show and at the first sneeze or sniffle are rushed to the vet........Most show people i know have heated runs for exercise luxury, scrarching posts, fresh food diet with plenty of vitamins, regular health care, all the best grooming equipment, beds, vetbedding and heat lamps for the kitties these animals are well loved and very well taken care of but the rspca persists in harrassing the owners!!!
Now please please don't get me wrong i do think they do a good job in rescuing animals and saving them but it is just the stupid rules on re-homing they need to have a long look at |

i am all for the pdsa, but i think the pdsa could save money by not posting letters with stickers etc on... they could use the money doing that.. to help more animals... i think .. ____________

dont get me started on the RSPCA!!!
i work at a private dog kennels and we rent out a block of kennels to the RSPCA and local council for dogs that are picked up by the dog warden, unwanted and recused we get them all.
we have a gorgous great dane in that is only two but has already had a horribal life so far, he has a really bad eye condition where the eyelashes are growing inside the eyelid, the RSPCA inspector said that the surgury will cost too much so he will just have to be pts!!! i went mad saying how can they justify saying this went they all drive round in brand new vans with top of the range gear! they have also started to pts the dogs that have been there for too long! last week was really upsetting because there was a really lovely GSD there that i got really attached to, he was pts because aparantly when some people came round to view him he flew at the kennel door going mad, and had been there for too long.it really upset me because i wanted to help him so much but there was nothing i could do,i couldnt have him with me as he wasnt to good with other dogs and i asked round eveywhere to find a home for him but couldnt find anyone to have him.
by the way the great dane wont be getting pts now as he has a forever home and they are going to pay for the op.
we have a really nice collie pup in just now that i have my eye on,he is only 9weeks old and we got him in 2weeks ago found very skinny wondering around the town!
ive just got to pursuade OH then hes mine!
i will post a pic of him for you all to see ____________ My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am!
