| Post subject: Dogs and Spiral staircases |

Really silly question this, but I am looking at a house that has a steep spiral staircase, its a bit slippy but my main worry is, can dogs negotiate them and do they cause problems later then they are older.

Any open back stairs can be a problem to dogs, even more so if they are wooden stairs. You only have to have a manic dog hareing up the stairs - and - whoop la big vets bill. I would consider this very carefully.

where i live there is a staircase but that is not steep and has carpet, but since your lab has what he has (sorry cant spell what i want to write) dont let him go up the stairs alot, it'll be a bit hard for him

You'll have to get a doggy Stannah stair lift for Maia and Jack, Nat....I'm sure it won't take you long to teach them how to press the buttons.  
But seriously folks...... If you carpeted the stairs Jack would probably be ok....but I think Maia would struggle to bend and go up the stairs with her funny hips.

Maybe we will decline, I have also since found out there is going to be 24 exec houses built too, and so my lovely balcony would overlook a posh estate.
Hmmmm, me thinks that one is off the radar

Don't have one in our house, but have stayed in a couple of cottages that have had them.
Kips has attempted both, once only......... and struggled going up and had to be helped down.
Not something I would choose

| Looked at a house today with one, and turned it down because of the open stairs. When did house hunting become a dog thing! I am now looking at houses that have a large garden/dog proof, near to countryside or footpaths, no dogs next door or kids if poss! I am only moving for my dog! Sod what we want! |

Its so hard isn't it, I have become a right fuss pot, we need somewhere with easy access to open field and rec grounds as well, east stairs, big garden..lol I have even applied for that TV programme Location Location

We moved recently....although not permanent..... the criteria is and will be the same:
Garden - dog friendly
Close to nice walks
Village pub which is dog friendly ( we have two at the mo )

we only moved intro this house because it was suitable for wilson. and we bought our car with this in mind too. i don't know...oh and of course our holidays have to all suit his lordships needs.
