We take a doggy holiday every year, and stay in a cottage. We normally go to the English/Scottish Borders and stay in either Eden Valley in Cumbria, or in Northumbria.
We use Welcome Cottage Holidays (www.2007welcome.co.uk for the current brochure details). You can do an virtual tour inside many cottages online.
Not all the cottages take dogs, but many do - and it is clearly marked. In fact, you can make that one of the categories in your search. They don't charge anything extra for dogs - indeed sometimes you can get a reduction if you take your dog (but only off-season, sorry!)
They have cottages on their books from all over England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. They also do cottages in France, Italy and other EU countries, but I don't have the website address for them. |

Ooohh glad I am not the only one - PR (pre ruby) we used to holiday abroad every year, maldives, barbados, egypt cuba you name it but I just dont want to anymore without Ruby
We took Ruby to the lake district when she was teeny and rented a cottage - we have taken her camping a few times also. I am thinking about a pet passport too for her so we can go a bit further afield. ____________ Vicky, Daisy and Ruby xx

Kippa is well travelled in the UK........ Scotland, many times, Wales, Northumbria, Cornwall and on and on
I can't say the trip to France was the best, too long for her and I must admit, I was concerned about how we went about going to the vet's before we set off home, but the caretaker of the cottage sorted all that out for us
There's something just sooooooo nice about taking the dog with you on holiday, after all, they are part of the family ____________ Joo, Kippa & Stan x

our jack russel has been to blackpool with us and we stayed in a caravan on a haven site, our lab and jack russel came with us to norfolk last year and we stayed in a challet. My mum has just bought a holiday home on a camp site in norfolk so has said we can take them there with us,but this year we want to go away without the dogs.
Although we will miss them,we dont want to have to worry about making sure we arent out for long and leaving the dogs alone too long etc....im sorry if it sounds cruel to anyone, but phils brother has said he will come and stay at our house while we are away so he can look after the dogs for us |

For peops on a budget, loadsa places out of school hols, especially CHYLEAN CHALETS near Tintagel, lovely beautiful scenery...
Of course, lotsa holiday cottages available everywhere but so expensive for singletons and peops on a budget.. there are lots of places willing to take negotiated rates before July and after September. Love Cornwall and Dorset meself and usually take caravan on farm as they are more 'natural' and less expensive and glad to have the business out of main season...
So - Charmouth for perfect doggy walking - even in summer can walk dog b4 10 and after 6 only restrictions from July to August...
Trebarwith Strand & Tintagel - magical and perfect for doggies, no restrictions... also most of Wales camper & doggy friendly... Dorset v doggy friendly...
There is a website on beaches in the Uk that are doggy friendly giving times, dates, locations etc. Many many beaches accessible all year (children not welcome!!! tee hee) Sorry, can't find address but do search for beaches + dogs and it will bring up a map you can click on for area...
There is no need to pay an absolute fortune to go away with your dogs and if someone wants to charge £25 pw for your dog, let me, and go elsewhere.. I have never paid extra for my doggy and always get a discount for out of season (JULY/AUG) bookings... peops are only too glad to fill their accommodation

Doesn't sound cruel or selfish at all, Poppydog. Nothing wrong in taking a holiday without your dogs, as long as you arrange proper care for them - and you have obviously done that! Have done it myself several times, but I do love the doggy holidays as well.
Go and enjoy yourselves - the dogs will enjoy having somebody else at their beck and call, and will appreciate you all the more when you get back. |

If you do go to Devon there is a lovely hotel on Dartmoor called 'Two Bridges' which actually welcomes dogs. Have stayed there many times and they really make you and your pooch feel welcome.
Woolacombe Beach is also fantastic for dogs and again they have a section set aside for pooches which is lovely
Good luck with your search but I hope these suggestions help.

I wish we could afford a holiday abroad this year Joo,we have just sorted out a loan to clear my cards and to clear the loan we had with the bank, and by doing that we have saved nearly 250-300 a month. So am hoping if we save up enough next year we will go abroad. So this year it will either be a week in my mum and dads new holiday home in norfolk,or a week in dorset, ive wanted to go there for ages |
