Post subject: Lumps in cats fur Reply with quote

Dear Nurse,

My little cat Chequie developed a few closely placed matted
lumps in her fur in the same area on her side a few months ago.

I cut the bigger ones off recently but smaller ones seem to be
developing in size beside where the old ones were.

They seem to be composed of dandruffy stuff which sticks the
fur together and the matting appears to begin about a quarter
of an inch above the scalp.

The affected area lies within two square inches, the matting is
flat possibly due to licking and shows as grey because the grey
underfur is exposed.

If I pull it apart it it appears to be glued by the white powdery
dermal looking stuff.

I dont think its a grooming issue, she is a shorthair and the
problem is only in one area. I have been brushing to try to
prevent it, but without success.

Also her boyfriend Baby who sleeps with her and is a year
older, shares the same brush, has longer hair but does not
have the problem.

She eats top quality catfood and is otherwise healthy.

Thanks for your kind assistance,
Sincerely,
Sara.

HI.

It is worth taking them to the vets as they may have Cheyleteilla which is a little mite which can cause dandruff/hair clumping.

It is easy to treat and minor skin parasite as long as caught early.

Laughing Lets see some piccies.

Dear Jenvetnurse,

Thank you very much for your kind advice. I believe that your
diagnosos must be correct and I have applied some 'spot On' to
the back of her neck to kill any parasites and will cut off the
remaining clumps.

If the condition then persists I will call out a vet, it is a 26
mile round trip for the vet (who is a farm rather than pet vet)
so I will wait and watch.

I did take a couple of photos on my mobile but the signal has
been weak all day and the mobile would not email the images
to the PC.

Thanks again for you kind service which is a help to all who
live far from the vet and have no transport or or unable to
easily access the service.

Regards,
sara and chequie.
Smile
