i have spoken to my friends who have rabbits and guinys and they all say that they had got the guinys first and then a baby rabit or bothe babys at the same time_do you think this makes a difrence?
also one of my friends who keeps their guinys out side all year long says she doesnt clean them out threw the winter and keeps adding more fresh straw this works as an insulater and it was what her grandfather did with his rabits which were bred to eat - aparantly this is much beter than covering the hutch with sacking or old carpit as this can lead to the rabits/gp to get damp and cold!
my friend who breeds gps does infact feed real gp food but has them out side all year long with no provition and they do seem fine.
and their is no way she is going to put them in her house or buy a shed for them! - her words not mine!!!

Gps and buns *can* live together without problems, personally I don't see the point in taking a risk when so many things are unsuitable, ie feeding, buns being bullies etc etc. Its her decision, and certainly not one I'd agree with.
As for not cleaning them out all winter, I wonder if she'd like to sleep, eat and breathe in the air from her own mess for 3 or more months, with just a bit of straw covering the floor.

Yeah most of the time Rabbits and Gunie Pigs get ''along'' but rabbits will eventually hurt the gunie in one way or another... Plus the diet is diffrent and also have diffrent needs. Its ok to have a gunie and rabbit but make sure their food bowls and play area are spaced....
Ive had 3 gunie pigs and the whole communication thing is kinda vital if you want a happy pet. I had two gunies together for four years and they were both best of friends and VERY active... took one away they both kinda got depressed... I had a third for eight years with no friend wasnt very active once it hit an ''adult'' age.... but still ran around ex,
So I will continue reading and help out others... ( P.S- gunies every now and then them roam outside during SUMMER in the semi shaded areas and keep a close EYE on THEM ... and dont leave them out for hours only like a half hour for what I know were I live ( House cats roam around ex,))

This topic always annoys me because I have a very bad tempered rabbit, and only really became bad tempered after his GUINEA-PIG friend died at the grand old age of 6 and a half. They didn't live in the same hutch outside, they had seperate because yes, rabbits can kick and bite and guinea-pigs are quite fragile and startled easily and put together, you can have trouble. They would come and play in the house together and my rabbit would never leave my guinea-pig alone, he loved him! I know some people house them together and they're fine all through their lives, some people would cringe at that, so be it but theres no wrong or right argument about this because as pet owners, we should already know the complications that may be there in the future. Whether or not they arise is another story.
I'd advise getting a nice hutch for the garden, but adding to that, I'd also advise getting a guinea-pig when its warmer weather, so it can adjust to the coolness of night without stuffing itself silly with food to keep warm in freezing weather, and as guinea-pigs in the wild burrow to keep safe and warm and to sleep, giving it lots of hay to snuggle into would be perfect, as well as enough to eat.
And I agree with what someone else said, maybe you should get the guinea-pig before choosing a name? It's nicer to name your new pets when you see them and you can get to know their character to find them the name that really suits them

i wouldnt reccomend housing guinea pigs and rabbits together or really having them together in a run either. How about Tinkerbell, melly or Kia

Probably because he was lonely and didn't have a guinea pig to hump and boss around. Rabbits need rabbit company and guinea pigs need guinea pig company- Fact as the two never meet in the wild.

So does that mean cats and dogs shouldn't get on because they wouldn't meet and naturally get on in the wild?? My rabbit prefers to be on his own anyway now, he'd attack anything that goes near his cage but that's just the way he is, I can't change that about him now, but that doesn't mean that any other nicer, friendlier rabbit wouldn't or couldn't befriend a little guinea-pig. Whats wrong with having a friend at the end of the day? My rats and my guinea-pig run around together in the lounge and wouldn't you think a couple of rats could make a pretty nice meal out of a full grown adult guinea-pig?? lol, friends come in all shapes, sizes and species, its a pity some people are narrow-minded to see that.
