| Hi everyone, just thought i'd join you after getting some fantastic news yesterday, my 7yr old male cat who went missing exactly a year ago this month has been found!!!! the cats protection has identified him from his chip and I am picking him up tomorrow. he went missing when a friend was looking after him during a house move. I really need your advice as I dont know whether he will remember me? we have moved to a new house, new baby however I still have his sister, will he remember her? please please can anyone tell me what to expect, he has been gone a long time and sounds as though he is in pretty bad shape and needs load to TLC... |

well for a starts thats real good, you must be happy, if you had a bond with him, and he had a bond with his sister then i dont ee why he would have forgotton if he stayed with you for 6 years.
welcome to petchat

Hi there and welcome!
What fabulous news that your boy has been found after all that time
You'll probably that he'll settle back in no problem, I'm sure he will remember you, although it's hard to know for sure! His sister might not be too thrilled to see him, as he'll smell different to what she's used to. Maybe when you go and collect him put a bit of blanket or a bed that she sleeps in inside the catbox you bring him home in to transfer some of her scent to him. You might get a bit of gumbling and hissing from her as she's used to being an 'only cat' now, but I'm sure she'll be fine with time.
Don't forget to keep him inside for a minimum of three weeks to ensure he won't wander off again!
Good luck collecting him, I bet you can't wait! We'd love to see some piccies of him and his sister

First of all welcome to petchat Its great that you are going to be reunited with your cat!
2 years ago my Partners moms cat went missing for 6 months and it turned out that someone in the next street had stolen him I found him pawing somebodys door and without hesitation i took him back to his real home. He hid behind the sofa for a couple of days and gradually came to everyone for a bit of fuss. He was kept in the house for a month and was gradually allowed out for 10 mins a day until they were sure he knew it was his home. This worked out fine and im happy to say he is still at his rightful home living happily.
I wouldnt worry to much, with a bit of TLC and patience im sure your cat will be fine and will soon be snuggling up on your lap
I hope all goes well and please let us know how you get on! ____________
