Well you wouldn't, Lu, as few people choose to cross breed those particular two therefore there isn't a very big "audience", so the nearest you can get is look up each breed separately and take a view.
The Kennel Club say a bitch must be at least a year old, some breed clubs say yes to that but not the first season, bigger dogs take longer to mature and should be left until they are two. It is important that the bitch is sufficiently mature as the whelping takes a lot out of them, calcium in particular, and they need to be mentally mature as well to raise their babies.
In nature, only the best bitch in the pack is mated and this is unlikely to be the youngest!

Thanks spottydog, florrie was the second litter of Poppy and Bobby, and her breeeder said that one day she thought how sweet both her dogs were and decided to breed, luckily we got a lady whom tested her dogs before breeding, and her puppies are raised in the best way.
I know from the breeder that florries mum, Poppy the dandie dinmont was 1yr and 6 months when she had her first litter, do you think this is an appropriate age?

Well I am not an expert on the breed Lu-1 but it complies with the Kennel Club rules for minimum age with a good margin.

Hi,
Can I just inquire as to why you are so keen to produce more mongrels? Theres more than enough in rescues who need homes, so why breed any two dogs together for the sake of it? Even if these two dogs are the prime examples of their breed, I still don't see the point of it. Its not responsible ownership, as the ads say, Its nicer to neuter.

This might help you http://www.cavaliersonline.com/breedpotential.html

I'm not trying to offend you or start a fight, I just think too many jump into breeding for the fun of it, and with the severe strain on the rescues with so many dogs destroyed each year, I don't see why you'd want to breed more. Its expensive for a start, and being a long breed, do dandie dimonts suffer from birthing problems?

Also the fact you don't even know when a female is ready to breed, tells me you have no idea what your doing and could end up with more problems than you bargained for. Puppies sound cute, but they cry throughout the night from a certain age, so if you can cope with the load of noise, mess, expense and worry, you are tougher than me!

Furthermore, any problems the parents have will be passed onto the pups, so anxious, highly strung, unsocialised mums tend to pass her aniexties onto her pups. Anything both parents fail in will be accelerated in the pups. I have limited knowledge when it comes to dogs, but thats basics. I really think you should reconsider, if you want pups, voleenteer at a rescue and play with those pups without adding to the problem and neuter the other dogs.
