Post subject: My brother is getting a puppy. Reply with quote

My brother moves into his own house in 2 weeks and him and his girl friend have just reserved an Alaskan malamute puppy. He is only 2 weeks old at the moment so they wont get him until christmas week. They have already decided to call him Max. I am jelous as i have always wanted one but then again i dont envy them when it comes to exercising him for hours on end Laughing

I will post some pics of him when they bring him home Very Happy

Don't mean for this to come across wrong, but I am assuming both will be working, so may I just enquire as to why they have reserved a pup, and also why a breed which is highly specialised and high maintance? They are not a cuddely breed of dog and can have very aloof attitudes, so not always a big family pet. Also due to their independant nature they need a LOT of socialising, locking them up at home for 8 hours a day and just popping home at lunch time isn't enough, and its the dog who will ultimately suffer.

Also, who is going to be at home the first few months to help the dog settle in and gradually get used to being alone, not to mention toilet training?

I sincerely hope I have jumped to the wrong conclusions here and if so, hope I haven't offended. Smile

I have edited this simply because i wrote it when i was in a mood ( got up on the wrong side of bed).

Our family have always had a keen interest in this breed therefor we have always researched about them. My brother wouldnt go out and get a dog without knowing how to care for it properly.

Yes they do both work but they work different hours of the day so someone is always at home. As for the socialisng they will be going to training classes and the pup will be go everywhere with them ( apart from my house as im sure Diesel wouldnt be impressed)

Its not as though they suddenly thought over night "oh lets get one of these". They have looked into getting one for many years and know thier requirements.

I wanted one but with having a son and all the other animals i knew that it would be a huge mistake. rest assured this wasnt a rushed decision
