I saw this on another forum and thought I should post it here, in particular for those who don't understand me when I say stop buying and start rescuing.

That video is so sad, yet i completley agree. All my animals are rescues, apart from Rumpy,Stumpy and Archie but i didn't pay for them. I always go to rescues when i have room for an animal. Also i feel that they love you just that little bit more Very Happy

That video was shocking. I am still in shock, too much to even cry, from the image of the cats and dogs in the bins, and the puppies all lined up on the table.

I feel incredibly guilty for buying my two rats (though I bought them through a pet shop who gets them from a breeder they know well, and they only got the rats because I asked them to)

I have a spare hamster cage, makes me want to do something in a small way and rescue a hammy! I really really want to rescue a hamster now, not sure my housemates will have it though.

The image of the black labrador in the bin will haunt me forever. I wish I'd never seen the video, but I'm glad it exists as it may make a few people think.

x x x x x x x x to all those animals who have suffered.

I have always rescued my pets.

One of my neighbours recently bought a pair of bunnies- a male and female to breed, so that it would give his wife "something to do when her youngest went to school".
I went home printed off loads of info on proper breeding and also info about rescues and homless animals and the next day they bought another hutch and run to seperate them.

Our pets at home has a special section at the back which is hired out to rescue centres. The cages are then used to display older animals from rescues that need a home, you then make a voluntary donation to the rescue centre of however much you want rather than buying directly from Pets at Home.

Unfortunately p@h doesn't run to one set of standards and each store has its own way of doing things to a certain extent. Some 'rescue' sections of the stores are used to sell off old stock and are not rescues at all. Other rescue sections are simply animals brought back to p@h if they are no longer wanted, and potentiually will be seen as a fallback to all those who impulse buy. Theres also the problem in that unlike a good rescue, p@h doesn't seem to do health checks and as far as I know doesn't neuter and vaccinate its rabbits. They don't homecheck either which is another problem. I am not a fan of their 'rescue service' and think some changes need to be implemented to protect animals going cheaply.

I am not a fan of p@h as they source their animals from a mill, and all the animals are therefore poorly bred with not thought going into health or temperment, its purely for colour to make a big profit.

i got my cat izzie from a rescue centre and my dog. my second kitty donnie i got from a local lady who's cat had unwanted kittens. i tried to get a kitten through a rescue centre but at the time they had none or i would have. it is a shame that so many animals have to suffer. i get annoyed sometimes at people getting pedigrees, its good for some people in the sense that if they want a docile or energetic dog with a pedigree you will be sure of what personality you will get. but i know a lady and she is just so rude about moggies and mutts. she thinks there not as good as her pedigrees. all animals are beautiful.
