Post subject: Bad breath but teeth have just been cleaned!! Reply with quote

Hi

Im a newbie and would love some views on bad breath in dogs! My JRT Ellie is 6 years old and just had a descale at the vets 3 weeks ago, her teeth were actually not that bad but because her breath was rank I had teeth cleaning done to eliminate the obvious! Her breath is still really rank and Im not being fussy (worked in vets myself for years and have seem some rotton mouths). My local vet has suggested blood test etc but just wondered what you guys thought...kidney disease and tumours have been mentioned, she is fit and healthy in every other way and I feed her Burns Nutrition but this started about 6 months ago and she has always had this food. Any ideas?

Many thanks
X

Do you give your dog fresh bones to chew on? These help.
I'm glad your are having blood tests done. If necessary get second opinions.
Good luck

Hi

Thank you for your concern. Been away for few days, I had a mini chat with vet again and he said terriers can be prone to halitosis etc, so ive bought her some Logic enzyme chews to see how that helps to start with. Her health is good - no signs of anything sinister but I may consider blood tests after ive given the chews a trial over a few weeks, im giving her one a day and it does seem to freshen her breath. The vet says some breeds harbour general bacteria in saliva more than others. So not going to worry too much for now but just keep close eye on things.
