I'm bringing my poor little 1 year old mouse, Squints, in to the vet in 50 minutes to be put to sleep.
He has an advanced tumor that's causing him eye problems, ear problems, and serious respiratory problems.
I'll probably be posting in this thread a fair bit over the next couple days, just to get the feelings out, just to warn you.
Letting pets go never gets easier, eh? Funny thing about that, though, is that being loved by pets never gets any less amazing, either. So I guess it's a fair trade...
...although it sure doesn't feel like one right now.

We were in the room with him until he had fallen asleep from the anesthesia...and it was really peaceful and calm. He looked as though he knew what was going on, and he was okay with it. He was a brave little soldier, like he's always been, and stayed strong for us.
Being there until the end somehow always brings me such comfort after the fact. Makes it easier to deal with and get past.
My boyfriend is still really shook up about it - it was his first pet loss in his entire life, so it's been really tough on him.
Kenny isn't taking it well either. They've only been apart for about 12 hours in their entire lives. I'm more upset for him than anything else. I don't even know what to do for him, as I've never had cage-mates/siblings for pets before.
I'm thinking about picking up one of those cat-toy mice that're all soft and fluffy so he has someone to cuddle with at night, and we're leaving the kleenex/nesting materials in for a while so his scent is still there. Also, of course, going to spend lots of time socializing with him ourselves, once he decides he wants to come out of their house. Any other tips for helping the poor guy get over his brother/best friend/roommate's death?
